E.E. Shay Dies At Noon Of Illness

Edward Elmore Shay, 76, a postal clerk, died at the Audrain Hospital Monday at 11:45 am. he was admitted to the hospital on Friday, and had been in poor health for several years. he had been critically ill for the past days.

Masonic funeral services will be held at the Arnold Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The Rev.. L. F. Afmire, pastor of Centennial Baptist Church will conduct the services, and burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

Son of Susan Hinds and Phillip Shay, Mr. Shay was born in Auburn, Lincoln County, on December 20, 1871. He was married to Miss Effie Epperson of auxvasse on July 10, 1907. The following year they moved to Mexico and have resided here since. For twenty five years he was employed as postal clerk at the Mexico Post Office, having retired on January 6, 1937. He was a member of th e Masonic Lodge and the Baptist Church.

Mr. Shay is survived by his wife who is ill at her home at 1113 East Love Street, an only sone, Edward E, Shay, Jr. of Mexico, two brothers, W. B. Shay of Los Angelos, Calif., and S. G. Shay of Bachelor; and three sisters, Mrs. B. C. Collins of Fort Collins, Colo., Mrs. Carrie Craghead of Minitare, Neb., and Mrs. W. B. Hill of Portersville, Calif. He is also survived by one grandson, Edward E. Shay. A brother, Everett Shay preceded him in death.

Last Rites for Edward E. Shay

Masonic Services for Edward Elmore Shay, retired postal worker, who died at Audrain Hospital at noonMonday were held Tuesday afternoon at the Arnold Funeral Home. the Rev. T. F. Admire, pastor of the Centennial Baptist church was in chage of the service and burial was in Elmwood Cemetery.

Those asked to serve as pall bearers were: Fred Kent, Sam Emmons, Robert Wilson, Joseph Bone, A. A. Mitchell and Henry Turner.

Among those from out of town here for the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Epperson, Mr. and Mrs. Ted West and Miss Mattie Craghead of McCredie; Mr. and Mrs. S. S. Shay of Bachelor, Mr. and Mrs. Lyndall Shay of Fulton, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Hickman of Calwood and Mrs. Everett Shay of Montgomery City.

Edward II or Jr. married Ora Kettle Gaines in 1947, and they were the parents of two children:

1. Edward Elmore Shay III- born July 1, 1948, Mexico, Missouri- died May 25, 1999 at Memphis, TN. Surviving Edward III were six children: Edward Elmore IV; Shelaine Faythe; Shannon Edward, Danny Lee, Kylee Elizabeth and Jessica Caitlyn.

2. Gayle Ann Shay- married Bill D. Mattox and they are the parents of three children: Carrie [ born 1971] , Mathew [born 1976 ] and Sara [ 1978-2000]
