Baxter's father as John S. Baxter (I believe this was John Stephen (Mr. Parker says John S.Baxter)(Roger Baxter, says Stephen,)I think John Stephen) ,

planter and what appears to be his second wife, Sarah Ann Smith. It seems that John H. Baxter came to Liberty County about 1820 as a young unmarried man to join his older brother , Stephen Hunnicutt Baxter(1783-1866)

who  lived in Liberty Co. Ga. since about 1805.  A sister Mary Anne Baxter, married Capt. William Smith Jr. in Liberty county in 1810.

daughter of  Samuel Delk(1780 - 1847) and Anna Delk ( Wife and Cousin)

As Florida opened for settlement about 1820 many Liberty County families sought new home sites there.  Shortly after their marriage, John H. and Nancy Delk Baxter moved to Gadsden County, Florida.  Repeated difficulty with the Seminole Indians caused John H. Baxter to move his family back to Liberty County, Georgia in 1835.  He acquired land in the 17th G. M. District, three and one half miles south of Taylors Creek Village  near the mouth of Big Horse Creek and there built his home. By 1850, he had accumulated a small plantation of approximately 1,850 acres of land, and had become an influential individual in the area.  he continued to live there until his death in July 1873.  His estate was administered by Edward Payson Miller, Executor.  The Children of John H.
