Estella May Miller married Bascom Scruggs at age 16 on 7 Mar 1888. Bascom was 28. According to her obituary, she divorced Bascom and married John M. Slack in 1896. The next notice of Estelle is the US Census of 1900, Boulder Co. CO. At that time she had Roscoe, Chester and Rose with her. She had given birth to Jasine W. Slack b. June 1897(Later called Joe), Sarra B. Slack b. Aug. 1898 (Later called Sally) and Thomas C. Slack b. Mar 1899. The enumerator of this particular census seemed to have a problem with spelling of names as he spelled Scruggs as Scroggs. According to Leo Marshall Scruggs Sr., son of Chester Scruggs, Stella had 11 children with John Slack. She had 4 children with Bascom including one child that died in infancy.
