Six generations of Larners have been of Washington record….Jacob Gideon, great-grandfather of the late John Bell Larner, was a soldier of the Revolution, and was buried in the Congressional Cemetery….Christianna Larner, grandmother of John B., comes into government records as one of those slave-owning Washingtonians of the Civil War period who met the wish of President Lincoln and made the Union Capital the outstanding example to the country by freeing their slaves…long before the Emancipation Act became effective….James Larner, the first of this branch of the Larner family…is said to have been born in Ireland.
