Willson, the subject of this sketch, was educated in the public schools.   He is a member of the Methodist church and holds his membership in Versailles.  He has been a member of this organization twelve years.  He is a member of the I.O.O.F., having been a member of this lodge two years.  May 19, 1907, he 

was married to Miss Ethel Jones, a popular school teacher of this county.  He was raised on a farm but clerked in stores at different times, both in Proctor and in Versailles.  Mr. Willson has made an efficient sheriff.”]

Thompson, merchant tailor, New York, and took charge of a branch of the business in New Orleans.  But the business did not suit him.  He withdrew from it and purchased the New Orleans Crescent, a daily and weekly newspaper.  They speedily made it equal to any paper in the city, and maintained this position until it was seized and confiscated by the military force employed in suppressing the rebellion….He married, in 1846, Martha Inskeep, of New Orleans, a granddaughter of Gen. James Giles, of Bridgeton.  Their only son, James Oscar Nixon, Jr., is a young lawyer of bright prospects in New Orleans.”]

Nicholson, a missionary, who happened to behere at that time…”]

[The United States Biographical Dictionary, Kansas volume (1879), pp. 505-506: “Hon. Thomas Sears Huffaker…a pioneer and public man of Kansas, was born in Clay county, Missouri, March 30, 1825.  As the name indicates, his father, George Smith Huffaker, was of German descent, but was born in Kentucky.  His mother, whose maiden name was Katharine Lowe, was of Scotch-Irish descent, a native of Kentucky….The mother died in 1851, aged forty-seven; the father in 1872, aged seventy-two years….He was married at Council Grove, May 6, 1852, by Rev. Dr. Nicholson…to Miss Eliza Ann Baker, daughter of Joshua Baker, who was employed by the Government among the Sac and Fox Indians of Iowa.  She was a sister of Judge A. I. Baker, murdered and burned in his home near Council Grove in 1862 by the notorious guerrilla Bill Anderson and his party of bushwhackers….They have had nine children, six of whom survive:…Mary H., married to J. H. Simcock, a prominent stock-dealer…”]
