Blikstad, The Nelson-Moen Family of the Town of Tumuli Otter Tail County, Minnesota (Fergus Falls, MN, 1938), pp. 14-15: “Lars Nelson came to the country together with his brother Tollef….In 1865 he married Sigrid Andersdatter from Valders, Norway….In 1911 he moved with his family into Dalton, where he passed away nine weeks later, December 5th, 1911.  His first wife had died March 17th, 1878, during childbirth.  In his first marriage he had five children.  The youngest, Lisa, died in birth.  The other four children are:…Carrie, Mrs. Emil Bakken, Mentor, Minn., has had four children, of whom three are living: Clifford….Jeanette….Edna is the youngest of Carrie’s children.  Carrie died in 1918….As already stated, Mrs. Lars Nelson died in 1878.  In 1879 Lars made a trip to Norway, leaving his children to stay with his brothers.  Nels stayed with uncle John, Carrie with uncle Peder, Serina with uncle Ole and Anton with uncle Tollef….He returned in 1880.”  From pp. 9-10 of the same: “…five Nelson brothers from Tynset in Østerdalen, Norway.  These five brothers, Peder, Tollef, Lars, John  and Ole were all born at Setermyrmcen in Tynset to Nils Pedersen Leteng and his wife Kari Tollevsdatter Brukroken….Tollef and Lars came together…Lars was born September 12, 1835.  The 8th of July, 1857, together with their cousin, Anders Stortroen, they sailed from Drammen, Norway.  After about eight weeks…they arrived at Quebec, Canada, September 7th.  From there they travelled…to Chicago, Ill., September 14th…”  From pp. 6-7 of the same: “In 1796, the year after the new church [in Tynset] was dedicated, were Peder Larsson Faaset and Kirsti Nilsdatter Strommen married by pastor Hieronymus Leigh….These two were the first settlers on Trøen (Letengtrøen), and became grandparents of the Nelson brothers….Their son Nils Pederson Leteng married Kari Tollevsdatter Brukroken.  They settled on ‘Setermyrmoen.’”]
