Age 57, of 1414 Jackson Street, South Norfolk, general mill foreman in charge of operations at the Lone Star Cement Company plant in South Norfolk, died Saturday, January 3, 1953 at 8:30 am in a Norfolk hospital after an illness of three months. A native of Lawrence, Kansas, he had resided in this section eight years. He had been with the Lone Star firm 25 years and traveled extensively on business throughout South America and Latin America. Recently he was awarded a watch as a token of appreciation for his service to the company. He was a member of the Christian Church of Northcott, Kansas and was a veteran of World War I, his late parents were JOHN HENRY and Mrs. KATE STROMBIX WHITNEY. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. MILDRED BELL WHITNEY; 6 sisters, Mrs. ERNEST ASKREN of Frankfort, Kansas, Mrs. CHARLES YOUNGBERG and Mrs. ETHEL BEAUMONT, both of Los Angeles, Calif, Mrs. EVELYN OWENS of Topeka, Kansas, Mrs. J. M. CARTER of Minneapolis, Minn and Mrs. ALICE NOWELL of Memphis, Tenn; 3 brothers, J.L. WHITNEY of Columbia, Kansas, W.P. WHITNEY of Garnett, Kansas and C.H. WHITNEY of Lebanon, Indiana. The body was removed to the Graham Funeral Home, South Norfolk, where funeral services will be conducted Monday, January 5, 1953 at 2:30 pm by Rev FRANK HUGHES Junior, pastor of the South Norfolk Baptist Church and Rev P. ROWLAND WAGNER, pastor of the Central Baptist Church. Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Park. Pallbearers: CLARENCE FOREHAND, A.B. BABB, HENRY TODD, GILMER ENGELHARDT, L.T. WITHERINGTON and JACK WILLIAMSON.
