Francis
The Francis family were prominent in Swansea during the mid 19th
century and intermarried with the Madge, Bath and Christoe families.
John Francis made his fortune as a coach builder and harness maker
with business premises on High and Strand St., Swansea. John was an
artist and a patron of local artists, who apparently passed on his
academic and artistic passions to his two older children. George
Grant Francis was a notable antiquarian: writing books on Welsh and
ancient history, while John Deffet Francis became an artist in his
own right. Of particular note in the following lineage is the
marriage of George Grant Francis Jr. to the widow and second wife of
Henry Bath of Longlands. Their child Marian Francis (Jr.) was to
marry Charles Lambert Bath, Henry Bath's grandson. Their lineages
