COTTINGHAM/COTTINGAME/COTTONGIM/COTTONGAME
The following is completely unresearched by me. I have found this information on many different web sites and am currently interested in documenting each generation to make sure this is an accurate account:
1 George Cottingham (Possible ancestor of Thomas)
...2 Thomas Cottingham
......3 Jonathan Cottingham I
.........4 Jonathan Cottingham II
............5 Charles Cottingham/Cottingame b. ca 1750 md. Nancy Conner?.
His will proved 1817 Marlboro Co. (District) SC.
...............6 Satilla/Letilla Cottingame (Satilla is named as a daughter
of Charles Cottingham in his will.) Md. Isaac James.
The following I have discovered through legal records and interviews with relatives:

Garrett
........................9 William Henry Harrison Garrett md. Nancy Viola

James. Ann and Satilla were sisters, daughters
of Charles Cottingame]

Many sources list Letilla's name as Satilla and perhaps that was her correct name. In the 1860 census, the L in Letilla's name looks like an S. When comparing the letter to other names in the census, it becomes obvious that names beginning with L have this same letter, but names beginning with S have a completely differently letter than the one which begins Letilla's name.
