Below is a file that I have been working on, but I have not cleaned it up. There are a few things that are conjecture that I have not labeled as such, yet. The biggest one concerns the children of James L. Toles (1750-1814). Almost all the evidence says that this James L. Toles is the same James L. Tolles of Fauquier County Virginia who were neighbors of the Suddeth family and Norman families in the 1760's and 1770's. There is a sale of estate land in 1787 of the father Roger Tolles who names James and his wife, "Catherine" who live in the New Purchase. There were several areas in the lower south which, at various times, were known as the "new purchase." One area was York County, South Carolina which was acquired and made a county in 1780 and was called the "new purchase" or "new acquisition" after settling a boundary dispute with North Carolina. Another area was the northern part of Georgia where Wilkes County is located and which was purchased from the Eastern Cherokees. One of the descendants of Lucinda Toles (oldest child of the James Toles of Wilkes County) says that Lucinda was born in York County, South Carolina. The date of birth for Lucinda is 1780 (she was 70 in the 1850 census). If the deed naming Catherine as the wife of James Toles is correct, then Lucinda is from a first marriage to James L. Toles. The next child born to James Toles is James jr in 1792. That is an awfully long gap in child birth for the same woman. So, I think that there were two wives, and have listed it that way on the chart that follows - although I have them listed exactly backwards. Please don't e-mail this information to anyone else in its current state. I don't mind you sharing the information itself, but I am embarassed about the way it looks.
