J. G. KELLETT

John Garland Kellett was born in 1826 in Laurens County, South Carolina, and migrated with his brothers and sisters to the vicinity of Danville, Montgomery County, Texas, in the early 1840s. Other families who also were from Laurens County and who migrated to the same area of Texas were the Parks and the Fowlers.

By1844, J. G.'s name was in the commissioners court minutes, assigned to road work. He was living with J. M. Kellett in Montgomery County, Texas, at the time of the 1850 census; Nancy Kellett, in the same household, was probably his sister.

John G. Kellett was the uncle of Henrietta Park, who was married to Thomas A. King.

In 1860, he was living in Montgomery County with his brother, J. M. Kellett, but Nancy is not in the household. He was age thirty-four. In the household was a little boy, J. W. Kellett, age four, who may have been the son of James.

On the 30th of August of that year he married Susan Elizabeth Ezell, his neighbor's daughter. She was eighteen, born in Tennessee, the daughter of C. C. Ezell and Rebecca Jane Mayfield. Rebecca is thought by some researchers to be the daughter of Nancy Brooks Mayfield Reding, and her first husband, Ambrose Mayfield. Although this is doubtful, there does seem to be a relationship between the families. Another daughter of C. C. and Rebecca Jane Ezell was Minerva Ellen who married Adam M. King.

John G. joined the Danville Mounted Riflemen on May 4, 1861. He was on the Muster Rolls of September 13, 1861 and of February 14, 1862. His name is not found in the rosters of troops of the Confederate States of America,probably because he was over age at the beginning of the war. In February, 1864, he signed a petition in Danville asking that A. M. McGilvary, the only employee of a spinning machine manufacturer, be exempted from service.

According to an online source, John died in Montgomery County on July 29, 1865. It is assumed that the brothers both died before 1870.

At least two children were born to John G. Kellett and his wife, Susan E. Ezell. They are John Wooldridge Kellett, born February 19, 1862, and Fannie Jane Kellett, born August 15, 1864. Fannie later married John Wesley Tabor. He was the grandson of Isaac and Susannah Bullock Tabor.

Susanna was enumerated as a housekeeper in the 1870 census of Comal County in the household of John and Nancy Davis, with her surname spelled Kalet. Her two children are also in the home.
Susanna's death date is unknown at this time.
