A 456-458 Lease and release. May 12 and 13, 1787. Arthur Barrett, planter, of 96 District, Newberry County to Robert Russell, planter, 51 acres on the North side of the Saludy (sic) River for (unspecified) lawful current money of the State. This property is the Land Grant to Arthur Barrett recorded in Grant Book LLLL, p. 90, dated June 5, 1786. Signed: Arthur Barrett (seal), Sarah Barrett (her mark, X, and seal). Witness: James Cleland, Martin Chester. Proved in Newberry County, June 2, 1788, on the oath of James Cleland before George Ruff, J.P. A 459-461 Lease and release. February 25 and 26 1788. John North, planter, of GA to Joshua Inman, blacksmith of Newberry County, SC, for 10 shillings, 100 acres on the waters of Beaver Dam Creek, a branch of the Saludy (sic) River, surveyed for John North, November 19, 1771 and lying in Craven County. Property adjacent to that of Thomas Yates, Jonathan Gilbert, William Turner. Signed, John North. Witness: Jacob Barrett, James Barrett, John Spann. A 592-595 Lease and release. August 29 and 30, 1788. John Wilkeson, Sr. of Newberry County, farmer, and Mary his wife, to David Pugh, taylor, of same, for £90 SC money, 200 acres to said John Wilkison, October 30, 1767 in Berkley County on Scotch Creek, a branch of Bush River. Adjacent: said David Pugh, James Dougherty. Signed, John Wilkerson, Sr. (seal); Mary Ann Mary Wilkeson (her mark and seal). Witness: Robert McClure, John Gottlob Meyer, Jacob Barrett. A 814 Newberry County. Diana Morgan of the County of Newberry, whereas William Shaw of Cambridge, attorney at Law at the Court held for Ninety Six in April last obtained a judgement at Law against me and my son Joshua Morgan, for the purpose of satisfying the same judgement and costs amounting to £10 sterling, by my attorney William McGlammery, deliver the following goods: all my crop of tobacco, corn, buckwheat, and cotton, fifteen head of hoggs (sic), has as swallowfork in the right ear and a smooth crop in the left and seven head of sheep of the same mark, two feather beds and furniture, a dish, three basons and five plates, two potts (sic), three bedsteads, four chairs, a chest, two tables, three wheels and a loom. A 849-851 Lease and release. February 17 and 18, 1787. Matthias Elmore of Newberry County, settlement of Bush River, and Elizabeth, his wife, for £100 SC money, 250 acres granted to John Boyd of the settlement of Saludy River, said county; 250 acres granted to Stephen Elmore, July 8, 1775 on NE side of Saludy River. Adjacent property claimed by Stephen Lewis, laid out on the Bounty, John Turner, recorded in Book RRR page 133. Signed, Matthias Elmore (seal). Witness: John Wilson, Jacob Barrett, James Lindsey. Peter Buffington of Edgefield County, Ninety Six District, and Sarah his wife, to John Barrott (sic), carpenter of Newberry County, for £50 lawful money of SC, 100 acres, part of a tract of 200 acres originally granted to John Brooks September 19, 1758 on a branch of the Saluda River called Scotch Creek. Jacob Chandler for £1000 sterling to Israel Chamber, six head of horses, twelve horned cattle, two stills, a house clock, one waggon (sic) and harness, all farming articles and household furniture. B 687-688 November 6, 1793.Clement Davis, Jr. of Newberry County, planter, to Jonathan Reeder of same, for £50 sterling, 100 acres on a branch called the Beaver Dam of Bush River. David Pugh to John Wilkerson, Sr., both of Newberry County, for £20 sterling, 148 acres, part of 200 acres granted to John Wilkerson and conveyed to David Pugh August 30, 1788, on Scotts Creek, a branch of Bush River. Recorded September 24, 1794.

C 20-24 Lease and release. November 26, 1791. Joshua Inman, Sr., planter of Newberry County, to John Marbutt, planter, of same, for £40 sterling, 50 acres on waters of Bush River. Adjacent: Frederick Burtz, John Inman, Mercer Babb, Esqr. Said land being one-half of 100 acres granted to Rufus Inman June 10, 1774 and conveyed by him to Joshua Inman, Sr., October 14 and 15 [year not specified]. Signed, Joshua Inman. Witness: Aaron Coppock, James Barrett. Proved November 26, 1791 by the oath of Aaron Coppock before Mercer Babb, J.P. Recorded January 5, 1795.

C 56-58 Lease and release. January 23 and 24, 1794. Mercer Babb, Esqr., of Newberry County and Samuel Gilbert of the State of Pennsylvania, to John Crumley, planter, of said county, for £51 6/8 SC money, 200 acres on waters of Saluda River, on a branch called Beaver Dam, part of a tract granted to Josiah Buckman [sic] May 18, 1771 and conveyed by him to William Weeks June 18, 1771. The above Mercer Babb, Esquire, executor of the estate of William Weeks, deceased, hath conveyed the same unto Samuel Gilbert, agreeable to a bond formerly given unto Joshua Gilbert by the said Weeks. C 764-768 Lease and release. March 21 and 22, 1791. James Barrett to James Barrett, blacksmith, 135 and 1/2 acres on the Saluda River for £20 sterling. Land originally surveyed for Nathaniel Haywood/Hayworth April 20, 1787 and granted to James Barrett December 1, 1788. Platt and Grant recorded in Grant Book YYYY, p. 179. Conferred all rights accruing to wife Anna, daughter of said Isaac Jenkins and also that part purchased along with John Jenkins from David Jenkins, September 5, 1809, as recorded in Deed Book S p. 288. K 395-396 September 15, 1812. John Stewart, B.S. bound unto Arthur Barrett in the amount of $100. The bond is collateralized by 50 acres of land adjacent the property of the said Arthur Barrett and John G. Sheriffís sale of land of William Barrett to satisfy judgement (May 13, 1808; Court of Common Pleas; recorded at Newberry Courthouse) of $59.82 and $22.47 in court costs against William Barrett and Robert Hilburn and in favor of Ann Harbert and Walter Harbert. Auction held June 6, 1808 with land (140 acres on Saluda River, including 70 acres originally granted George Nichols and 40 acres granted John Bush, and 30 acres granted Henry Bradshaw) going to Elijah Boatner for $500. L 167 December 24, 1814. Henry Onslow Barrett and wife Lydia Barrett (formerly Lydia Jenkins) to John Jenkins, for $200, our claim of right to 200 acres on Scotts Creek, a water of Bush River. That being 1/6 part which fell to Lydia from the estate of her father, Isaac Jenkins. Said land bought by Isaac Jenkins from Benjamin Adkins. Adjacent: Henry Coate, Robert Boyce, Francis Adkins. L 238 February 17, 1813. Arthur Barrett to William W. Thomas, for diverse good causes, 25 acres of land where both Arthur Barrett and William W. Thomas now live. Tract to be laid out so as to be most convenient round the house where Thomas lives. Thomas not to have any right to sell the land, but should he die, his wife and children are to take permanent possession of the land. Signed, Arthur Barrett. M 20 September 26, 1815. James McClung to James Murdock, Sr., for $150, 51 acres on Beaver Dam Creek, a branch of the Saluda River, which was originally granted to Arthur Barrett, June 5, 1786, and transferred to Robert Russell by lease and release May 13, 1787. Property subsequently transferred to James McClung August 23, 1804 and is the same place where David Man now lives. Adjacent: James Cleland, Soloman Rees, James Murdock. Witness: David Murdock and John Jerra. Proved February 28, 1818 and recorded March 6, 1818.

M 112 June 13 1818. Margaret Dunkin, compelled by duty that I believe freedom to be right, set free my negro woman Hannah. Witness John OíNeall, Capt Thomas S. Barrett. June 13, 1818. Freeholders: Joseph Coppock, John OíNeal, James Jay, Benson Jones, Thomas S. Barrett certify on qualifications of Margaret Dunkin, widow owner of slave Hannah aged about 37 years, otherwise called Hannah Allen, satisfactory proof given to us [that] slave is not of bad character and is capable of gaining livelihood by honest means. Proved June 13, 1818 and recorded June 15, 1818.

M 154 November 4, 1815. Owen Daily of Edgefield District, SC to Samuel Spence of Newberry District, SC, for $450, 100 acres on Youngís Fork of Bush River.
