Legal Documents with Joseph Barrett Included

Attached is a deed that I have transcribed from a record I bought from Elise for $25.00. We may as well use it. This deed was filed in Pickens County, Alabama by Joseph Barrett and Reuben Barrett of Noxubee County, Mississippi and William Barrett of Pickens County, Alabama.

The purpose is to give Arthur Barrett of Pickens County, Alabama, power of attorney to sell their share in the estate left by Reuben Barrett. Records in Pickens County were destroyed about 1876. The deed was also recorded in Greenville District, South Carolina when Arthur sold their parts to Henry B. Prince.

The deed of sale was officiated by Joseph Barrett, Justice of the Peace in Greenville District. That Joseph Barrett was the son of brother Arthur Barrett and Rebecca Barton. He was born 26 November 1795 in Greenville County, Washington District, South Carolina and died 2 November 1860 in Gordon County, Georgia. He is buried in Blackwood, Georgia.

I do not know the Book number but the pages are 431 and 432. This record has been used as proof that Reuben Barrett was the father of Joseph, Reuben, William and Arthur. It has been accepted by DAR. If anyone wants a copy of the written deed I will be happy to send it free.
