Janet,
I was pleased to hear from Steven. There are not many researching my line. I sent him fourteen children for Richard Stancil Barrett. I have written him and explained the numbering system. There is one child on your list who is named twice. Once as Sam Barrett and once as Richard Stancel Barrett, Jr. His name actually was Richard Samuel Barrett and called Sam. Sam lived to be 104 years old. I went to Memphis and interviewed him when he was only 98. He had all the information on his family written out. What a treat it was to talk to him. He remembered his grandfather, John Napoleon Barrett.
I am sending you all the names of these fourteen. They were all born in the same place, same house, located on a gravel road next to Good Hope Baptist Church about 8 miles northwest of Camden, Madison Co., MS. I once went to a Barrett family reunion there and got lots of good information.
Every researcher for John Barrett's family has seen the same genealogical file that lists Elisha as John's father. Joseph Barrett died in 1840 and left 4 young children. Elisha was the son of Reuben Barrett (Jr) and Sarah Miller. He lived in the same location in Neshoba County where Reuben and Joseph finally settled. Elisha was an older cousin of John and no doubt was influential in his upbringing. I can understand how Robert Mitchell thought Elisha was John's father. I would appreciate you placing these names on the website when you get time. I really don't know how you do all you do.
Thank you,
Gerry
