David Hamilton Barrett, born 13 March 1829, Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, died 5 Aug 1916, Neshoba Co.,MS and was buried at Sandtown Cemetery.

He was the son of Joseph Barrett of SC, and his second wife, Rutha Cabiness Moore, born in Virginia about 1796. David's father died in 1840 when David was 11 years of age and he and his brothers John napolean, Reuben Gatlin, Benjamin T.A. and a blind half brother, Joseph Jr., were reared by Rutha on the family farm north of Sandtown previously known as Coffadeliah.

David was a member of New Hope Church, second baptist church established in Neshoba County on 27 April 1839. (The church is now known as Bond Baptist Church). His parents and one of their servants joined the church that year.

Around 1856, David married Louisa Jane Copeland. She was born 5 Oct 1839, died 12 Feb 1880, according to her gravestone at Sandtown Cemetery. The 1880 Mississippi Mortality schedule shows she died of bronchitis at age 40. It appears David remained a widower the rest of his life--36 years. One of his brothers, Reuben Gatlin Barrett, was a well known Baptist preacher in Leake and Madison Counties, MS

A soldier in the confederate Army, David H. Barrett was a private in Company F, 40th Mississippi Infantry Regimaent. His obituary was carried in the 24 August 1916 issue of The Neshoba Democrat newspaper, Philadelphia, MS

Sometime after 1910, Samuel Ira Barrett moved his family to Bloomfield community a few miles south of Sandtown. Born 15 Nov 1869 and died 9 Oct 1957, he married 15 Nov 1894, Neshoba Co.,MS., Mattie Chapman who was born 18 Sept 1871 in Alabama, died 8 Oct 1954, Neshoba Co.,MS. Her parents were John C. and Sally Wilson Chapman.

Sam was a farmer and a member of Bloomfield Baptist Church, while Martha (Mattie) was a Methodist. They had seven children.
