Janet, I have a little time, so I thought I'd add a little info to the Joseph Barrett lines. B.B. Barrett and his wife Elizabeth Catherine O'neal are both buried at Barrett Cemetery, Neshoba Co., MS. I visited this cemetery a few weeks ago with my mother. It is overgrown and weedy, but most of the stones are still standing and a fence erected sometime in the past 20 years or so is still in good condition. B.B.'s marker has a Masonic emblem on it. The cemetery is a stone's throw from the banks of the Pearl River, high up on a rocky cliff, and is accessible only through "logging" roads. (I think these roads, if you can call them that, are actually hunting roads). The weather was dry when we went, and I was able to drive all the way up to the cemetery in my car, but it was iffy in a few places. I would recommend anyone who goes in there use a 4-wheel drive or ATV. I think the cemetery may be on reservation lands. A friend of my family, a Native American, went with us to show us the way, and he said he thinks it's on the reservation too. He gave me a little info about Nitacature. He said he believes the name should be pronounced "nit-a-ooh-ca-chur, and if it was, it was certain to mean "Bear Catcher".
In your file, you list Reuben Gatlin/Gallitan, son of Bartholomew Berry b. November 1854.
Their grave markers read: Ruben G. Barrett Chyestine Adelia Coghlan Barrett 20 Nov 1854-21 Jun 1920 6 Sep 1855-7 May 1916 wife of R.G. Barrett
YAlso at White Oak are their children: Myrtle Barrett- died 4 Sep 1895-age 11 mos- dau. of R.G.and C.A. Barrett;
James Barrett- died 14 Aug 1900- son of R.G. & C.A. Barrett;
Eula Barrett- d. 15 Aug 1900- dau. of G.A. & C.A. Barrett .
Eula is listed in your file, but Myrtle and James are not. I believe this Eula was probably Ruben's daughter, and perhaps the person who collected/transcribed made a typo or something with his initials.
There are graves of two children of R.G. and C.A. Barrett at Barrett cemetery:
Hooper Barrett d. 31 Dec 1886 Son of R.G. & C.A. Barrett
Manda Barrett d. 22 Nov 1882 Dau. of R.G. & C.A. Barrett.
B.B.'s son John is buried in Barrett Cem. as well.
Joseph Lemuel Barrett is buried at White Oak, death date on marker, 18 Apr 1916. His wife N.C. Hays is buried there also, no dates on her marker. Joseph L. and N.C. were married in Neshoba County on 24 Aug 1879. In 1900, the Census shows Joseph and Nancy C. in Beat 5, Neshoba County with children Willie E., Marion A., Mary C., and Martha J. V.

(Note: Correction from Ken Barrett:1.Item number 6 page 2 (printout) My fathers name is Hullen and a typo occurred naming him "Herman." Also he died on January 18, 1973, and that can be added to the information shown.

Ok. I hope you'll have time to add this to the web site. It may help someone somewhere. Your site has been a blessing to me--I didn't know much at all about the Barretts until Renece Wise told me about your site. You've done a wonderful job and I think it's one of the best I've seen. The mailing list is very helpful too. I'm looking forward to getting to meet you at the reunion in SC in May '03. I can give you references if you want them, on most of this info. The late 20th century info is mostly from family sources.
