Note: Some of the facts on this page are purely speculation from the research I have done in Madison County and Grimes County. If you have other information on the people in this photo please let me know. We are trying to determine what this photo was in celebration of as most of the people in it are in somehow related to Hulda and John Barrett.
My sources are Madison County census and marriage records as well as family genealogy records.
1. Julia Jenkins b. 1889 - this birth date can't be right as this little girl was born in Feb. of 1893 to Angus Jasper Jenkins and Sarah Emmaus Larrison daughter of Joel Greenwood Larrison and Mary Lawrence who were married 6 Dec 1866 in Madison County. The Greenwoods lived in Grimes County. The Larrisons and Barrett's intermarried thru Hulda and John Barrett's first son Stephen Reding Barrett married Sarah Larrison daughter of Daniel Larrison.
2. Rosa Steel Vaughn - Rosa married James W. Withers on 3 Jan 1896. James was the adopted son of Hulda Barrett. Rosa was a Mrs. when they married. It is not known yet if she was widowed. I am still researching the Steel family and the Vaughn family. There are several Steels and Vaughn's in this group picture.
3. Sam Davis a child in this photo is Samuel Newton Davis who was born 19 Apr 1891 and died 30 Nov 1954 he is buried next to Sarah Elizabeth Davis 1841-1928 who may be his mother.
4. Carrie Carter a child in this photo.
5. Jesse Steel may be related to Rosa Steel Vaughn a J.T.Steele married Maggie Adams 29 Jan 1890. He was born in 1866.(Further research needs to be done on this person.)
6. Mamie Carter a child in this photo. Is the daughter of Mary Carter and Charles W. Carter. She was born 1880.(Further research needs to be done on this person.)
7. Bobbie Kelton a child in this photo could be Robert F. Kelton or Robert Keltons son, Robert Kelton married either Mrs. P.E. Plummer on 24 Jan 1895 or Carrie V. Burrows on 1 Nov 1882. (Further research needs to be done on this person.)
8. Janie Carter a child in this photo married P.B. Wycough 20 Dec 1908. (Further research needs to be done on this person.)
9. Don't know that boy- being as the person could not identify this boy neither can I but if you know him please let me know.(Further research needs to be done on this person.)
10. Bobby Barrett (Sharry's baby?)This is most likely Robert K. Barrett son of David Albert Barrett. This is the only Robert/Bobby Barrett who was born into Barrett family during this time. His mother was Martha Tolbert. Was her nickname Sharry?
11. Cleveland Crossland a child in this photo. There is another Crossland child in this photo. I checked the 1880 and 1900 census of Madison County and there were no Crosslands living there.
12.Hubert Barrett (John's Boy)Hubert Redding Barrettson of Jonathan Collard Barrett and Martha Shepard born 19 Feb 1884 in McCullough, Tx died 28 Mar 1965 in Houston, Harris, Tx. Married Margaret (Maggie) Allphin 11 June 1907. Grandson of Hulda and John W. Barrett

14. Jim McCan's baby Grandchild of Hulda Barrett, daughter of Amanda Barrett McCan and Jim McCan.
15. Jim McCan husband of Amanda Barrett McCan, born 20 Oct 1834 in Alabama, married 20 Jan 1869 in Madison Co. and died 31 July 1915 in a carriage accident just 6 months after his wife died if cancer. He was the son of James McCan and Sarah Viser.(Why are Jim McCan and Steve Barrett in picture and none of the other children or their wives in picture?)
16.Frankie Barrett(Steve's girl)a child in this photo, the daughter of Steven Franklin Barrett and Martha (Mollie) Bobo Barrett was born 17 Sept 1894 in Larrison Prarie, Madison, Tx and died 3 Mar 1976 at Midway, Madison, Tx. She married Mitchell Lewis Vetuski on 6 Apr 1910 in Madison Co.. She died on her kitchen table after a doctor was called in and he performed surgery on her throat right in her kitchen.
17.Steve Barrettson of Stephen Reding Barrett and Sarah Larrison Barrett was born 19 Apr 1863 in Madison Co., Tx he married Martha (Mollie) Bobo King and died 17 Mar 1903 the daughter of Andrew Bobo and Harriett Brooks Bobo.
18.Mattie Thomas a young woman in photo.Martha “Mattie” Barrett daughter of John and Hulda married William Bobo and they had a daughter Annette Bobo who married David Thomas. However, they also had a daughter named Mattie Barrett. This could be a relative of David Thomas. The only Thomas’ in Madison county in 1880 were Willie and Fannie Thomas who lived with their sister Lucy Thomas Lupryskins, they are both single and both 19 years old. Need to check census records.

24. Maggie Davis a young woman in this photo daughter of Sam H. Davis and Eliz Davis born 1879 grandaughter of Emma E. Davis as per census records.
25. May Belle Floyd (Frank Larrison’s Wife) married to Frank Larrison 19 Jan 1897. He was the twin brother of Sarah Larrison Barrett the wife of Steven Franklin Barrett who was son of Hulda and John Barrett. Frank died at a young age.
26. Curtis Kelton Jr. (Peter Curtis Kelton)a child in this photo the son of Peter Curtis Kelton and Annie J. ? . He was born 15 Mar 1887 and is buried at Greenbriar Cemetery in Madison County with his parents.
27. Henry Thomas a child in this photo. There is also a young woman named Mattie Thomas in photo. This may be her son.
28. Jim Barrett (Luthurs son) (James David “Jim” Barrett), a child in this photo is the son of Luthur Monroe Barrett and Sarah Adams Barrett, grandson of Hulda and John Barrett. Jim was born 24 Mar 1887 in Madison Co. and died 27 Nov 1956 in Houston, Harris, Tx. He married Della Irene Lloyd 3 July 1910 in Harris Co, Tx daughter of Henry Lloyd and Martha Zachary.
29. Will Barrett (Steves boy) (William John Barrett) son of Steven Franklin Barrett and Mollie Bobo Barrett, grandson of Hulda and John Barrett. Born 26 Aug 1886 San Saba,Tx died 10 Apr 1976 Trinity, Trinity, Tx he later married Lois Hoeser 10 Apr 1912 in Madison Co, Tx. Daughter of Louis Hoeser and Mary Ferrell.She died 11 Apr 1976 after they were in a car accident. This was my great grandfather and I remember him well.
30. Will Barrett (Johns boy) (William Barrett) son of Jonathan Collard Barrett and Martha Shepard born 1887 in Madison Co. as per genealogy records of Dolifene Gant.
He was grandson of Hulda and John Barrett.
31. Emma Crossland a child in this photo. There were no Crosslands in the 1880 or 1900 census of Madison County.

36. Maudie Barrett (Luthurs girl) (Maude Elizabeth Barrett) b. 7 Apr 1885 in Madison Co. died 7 Mar 1909 child of Luthur Monroe Barrett and Sarah Adams Barrett granddaughter of Hulda and John Barrett. She married John O. Lloyd 5 Dec 1900 in Madisonville, Texas

39. Lonnie Vaughn a child in this photo, there is a Lannie Vaughn in the 1900 census but could not find a Lonnie in 1880 or 1900 cesus of Madison County.

57. Tolephus Barrett (Bills boy) a man in this photo, the son of William Robert “Bill” Barrett (picture) and Elizabeth “Lizzie” Walters and grandson of Hulda and John Barrett. He was born 20 Apr 1878 died 19 Mar 1937 in Mad.Co. He owned a gristmill and a syrup mill and made cornmeal and ribbon cane syrup which he sold in Madison County.

The Dickey and Kelton families are connected.
