Paul Leslie Barnard      Born 9 Sep 1899, Memphis, Tennessee.  Died 28 Jul 1968, Little Rock, Arkansas.   Buried at Roselawn Cemetery, Little Rock, Arkansas.Paul Leslie Barnard attended Rozelle High School in Memphis (which later became Norphlot School.  He entered Night Law School in Little Rock and upon graduating he began his own law practice specializing in Wills and Probate.  In 1920 he worked in the United States Marshall's Office, in 1925 ran for Little Rock City Attorney but was defeated and from 1942 to 1943 he was secretary to Congressman Brooks Hayes in Washington, D.C.  Paul L Barnard was a mason, a longtime member of 2nd Baptist Church in Little Rock.

Obituary: Little Rock attorney Paul L. Barnard , 68, 5200 "H" died Saturday in a Little Rock hospital.    Barnard was a former legislative assistant to Sen. Brooks Hays, a member of the Pulaski County Democratic Committee, the Pulaski County Tuberulosis Association and the board of deacons and board of trustees of the Second Baptist Church.  Funeral will be at 1pm Monday at the Second Baptist Church by Rev. Dr. Dale Cowling.    Active pallbearers will be Frank Wills, B.T. Jacson, Lyle Hayden, Sam Harris, Omar Hill and Harry Gladden. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Brooks Hays Bible Class, deacons of the church, members of the Pulaski County Bar Association, Bill Hood and Wayne Foster.   Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park by Griffin-Leggett.    A native of Memphis, Barnard was the son of the late Robert Edgar Barnard and Cora Minnette Erion Barnard.    The well known Little Rock attorney attended Memphis public schools and graduated from night law school at Little Rock in 1922.   While attending law school, Barnard was secretary to Mayor Ben D. Brickhouse and served in that position for two years after his graduation.   In 1924 he set up his law practice which continued for over 25 years with the exception of the years 1943-1945 when he was an assistant to Congressman Hays.   For a time, Barnard was a law partner of Judge Harper E. Harb, now deceased, until the judge retired.   On occasion, Barnard acted as special judge for Harb when the jurist was unable to hold court.   Barnard later formed a partnership with his first cousin Linwood L. Brickhouse, now deceased.   Barnard's legal practice was confined largely to probate work of which he was considered an authority.

Barnard, Little Rock lawyer, coming to Washington as secretary to Representative-elect Brooks Hays (D., Ark) follows in the footsteps of his father. R.E. Barnard who died in 1913 more than 50 years ago served as secretary to Col. Casey Young, of Memphis, when Young was a congressman from Tennessee.

     Ray Edgar Barnard.   Born 5 Dec 1884 in Louisiana.  Died 22 Oct 1960 in Memphis, Tennessee.  Buried at Forest Hill Cemetery, Memphis, Tennessee  His wife, Allie Haughton Barnard died 10 Sep 1969 is is buried beside him.
From Who's Who: Ray Edgar Barnard, certified public accountant, 527 Lundee St., Memphis.   He was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, on December 5, 1884, the son of Robert E. and Cora May Erion Barnard and is of English and German extraction.   He attended Memphis and Shelby County High Schools; and attended Macon and Andrews Business College and has completed special correspondence courses.   He received the Certified Public Accountant Certificate (Tenn) in 1925.   On July 2, 1905, he was married to Allie Haughton of Spring Creek, Tennessee, and to this union have been born three children, namely: Mary Virginia (Mrs. R.B. Jones of Geneva, Switzerland), Kathleen Louise (Mrs. Richard Gorman of Miami, FL) and Carolyn (Mrs. R.J. Benson of Asheville, NC).   He was an officer and chief accountant with Galloway Coal Company, Memphis, prior to 1918.   During World War I, he was Chief Auditor of the U.S. Fuel Administration in Washington, D.C.    He has been active in public accounting from 1919 to 1944, and has had his own practice as Certified Public Accountant 1945 to date.   He has served as a director of Odd Fellows Hall and Library Association, Memphis, and as a Trustee of Chickasaw Lodge No. 8, I.O.O.F., Memphis for the past twenty years.   He is a member of Angerona Lodge 168, Blue Lodge, Free & Accepted Masons.   He has served as Past Grand Patriarch, I.O.O. F., Jurisdiction of Tennessee, Encampment Branch.    He is a member of the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants, the American Institute of Certifed Public Accountants and National Association of Accountants.   He is a Democrat.   He is an Ordained Deacon for Life (Baptist Church-presently inactive) and is a present member of Bellevue Baptist Church of Memphis.

      Earl Robert Barnard.   Born 17 Aug 1887 in Memphis, Tennessee.  Died 23 Aug 1967 in Little Rock, Arkansas.  Buried in Historic Elmwood Cemeter, Memphis, Tennessee.

MEMPHIS COMMERCIAL APPEAL:  EARL BARNARD MADE INSPECTOR OF POLICE
Earl R. Barnard of Memphis, brother of Paul L. Barnard, secretary to Mayor Ben D. Brickhouse, has been appointed Inspector of Police at Memphis.   For a year prior to promotion Mr. Barnard was lieutenant of the Memphis detective force.   He was at one time connected with the Missouri Pacific special service department at Little Rock, and he is well known here as well as by practically all peace officers of this state.   In his present position Inspector Barnard is subordinate only to the chief of police and police commissioner and is in direct charge of the entire uniformed police force, consisting of about 250 men.



     Leila Mae Barnard   Born 21 Oct 1888.  Died - unknown date.  Leila married James Hahn from El Paso Texas and together they traveled the country performing what was known at the time as Vaudville Acts.  They had no children.










     Robert Edgar Barnard & Un-named Twin.  Born 11 Jun 1891.  Died 11 Jun 1891, Memphis, Tennessee.   Both twins buried at Elmwood Cemetery, Memphis, Shelby County, Tennessee
