This homepage was created to help you discover your Barger family roots. Membership in the Barger Family History Society is free and open to everyone interested in the history of the various Barger families. In the 1990 census, there were fewer than 6,000 Barger families in the United States, yet many of us have lost track of our mutual relations. Please join us in discovering and preserving the records of our past. We endevour to promote and the highest standards of surname research and hope to provide a resource for all Barger-related families, even those with variant spellings, such as Bargar, Barrigar, Berger, Berrier, Shufflebarger, Wolfenbarger, Fronabarger and others.

OUR HISTORY:

In January of 1998, the Barger Family History Society began reaching out to genealogists on the world wide web and placing ads in genealogical publications to announce its goal to provide a point of contact for those interested in Barger family research. In May of 1999, its webpage was designated an official Surname Resource Center and registered with the Surname Web. Since that time, we have affiliated with the Rootsweb organization to provide a more interactive communication system. Descendants of various lines of the Barger families in the United States, Australia, New Zeland, Canada, South Africa, Germany, France and Holland have contacted the society. Membership participation continues to grow each month. As of January 1, 2000, more than 600 people, most of whom are actively engaged in genealogical research, have joined the Barger Family History Society.

HOW TO BECOME A MEMBER:

Membership in the Barger Family History Society is free and open to all family members and others who wish to participate in the exchange of Barger family information. There are no dues, fees or charges for any services or information provided by the Barger Family History Society. Small donations for postage and miscellaneous office expenses, and for the purchase of books, periodicals and other resources for the society will, however, be gratefully accepted and acknowledged, but are neither required nor solicited. To join, send your name, mailing address, e-mail address and a brief note indicating which Barger line you are researching, to:

BARGER ROOTSWEB MAILING LIST FOR THE SERIOUS FAMILY HISTORIANS:

There is a new and better way to keep in touch with all the most active Barger family researchers! You can subscribe to the Barger mailing list by sending a message which contains the word "subscribe" (no quotation marks) and nothing else, to The Barger Rootsweb Mailing List, using the link provided below. Should you ever need to remove yourself from the list, simply send a message containing only the word "unsubscribe" to the same list.

A link is also provided below for your convenience in posting messages and queries to the list at Barger-L@Rootsweb.com once you have subscribed. Messages sent to the list will be automatically forwarded to all subscribers, and a copy will even be sent to you for reference. Communicating with so many family researchers at one time has never been easier!

This will be a wonderful way for you to all keep in touch. Use the Barger mail list to find lost cousins, discover other researchers working on your family line, post queries, offer advise and encouragement, make anouncements and pass on information to others. Have fun!
