Note from B. Reininger: Jack Spangler starts this e-mail by saying he needs some help but read on. He has done a lot of research on this family & shares some of it in this e-mail to the Floyd Co., VA Newslist dated Friday, June 07, 2002 7:22 AM.

I need some help.
Daniel Spangler, Sr., his wife Mary and their children moved to Franklin County,
VA around 1773. Their son Daniel, Jr. purchased the mill on
Pine Creek (near the present day Pine Creek Church on Spangler Mill Rd), now
Floyd County, in 1792 from William Logan who had purchased it from Josiah Terry
in 1787. Undocumented family folklore
indicates that Daniel, Sr. father's name was Jacob and his wife Mary's maiden
name was Notsinger (Nofsinger, Noffsinger, Naufsinger). A number
of genealogies on the internet say (what I believe to be in error based
on documentation I have) that Daniel, Sr. was a son of Jacob and
Elizabeth Stophel Spangler. I remember being told years ago that there
Daniel and Mary's family bible which is written in German still existed
but I have never been able to find it. Folklore also says that Daniel and
Mary's daughter Hannah married Dr. John Noffsinger.
Daniel, Sr. and Mary's children were Daniel, Jr, George, John, Mary Hannah
(Polly), Mary Elizabeth (Mollie) and Mary.
Folklore also says that Daniel and Mary's daughter Hannah married Dr. John
Noffsinger. A number of genealogies on the internet show John
Noffsinger married Mary Elizabeth Spangler prior to 1774, a daughter of Daniel
and Mary Spangler; moved to Muhlenburg, Kentucky; and, died there in 1833. This
does not seem consistent with these documents I have in my possession (extracts
shown below).
I have been searching for over 35 years for documentation that will confirm
Daniel's ancestry, Mary's maiden name and when and which of
their daughters married John Noffsinger. Does anyone on this forum have
the documentation I am looking for or know where I may obtain it?
Here are a few facts from the documentation I have:
1. Daniel Spangler and John Noffsinger jointly owned property in Bedford
County in the early 1770's.

In this document Mary Spangler, Daniel's widow, talks about "..my son in
law John Naufsinger, . my son John,..My son in law Thomas Fouler and his
wife Mary,..and my son Daniel". There is no mention of daughters Hannah
and Elizabeth. From this I infer that both Hannah and Elizabeth had
died before 1812. A note written in 1916 says Elizabeth Spangler, Daniel
Spangler's sister, married George Sowers. (I don't know if this note
refers to Daniel, Sr. or his son Daniel, Jr. who settled in what is now Floyd
County, VA.) Also note that a George Sowers wittnessed Mary's
will.
Family mythology, again without proof, says Hannah was married to John
Nofsinger. If this is true then from the Deed of Gift and Mary's will I
infer that Hannah married John Nofsinger after 1788 and had died before 1812.
If she had been in Kentucky in 1812 I assume Mary would have also
mentioned her by name in her will instead of just "my son in law John
Naufsinger".
At this time(1812) Thomas Fouler and his wife Mary were in Franklin County, VA,
son John Spangler was in either Kanawha County, Virginia or
Ripley County, Indiana and son Daniel Spangler was in Montgomery (now Floyd)
County, Virginia.
