DB A, pg. 182 - Constable Bond - John Howell, Jr., Benjamin Howell and Jacob Helms are held firmly unto John Floyd Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia and his successor in the sum of $2,000, to the payment whereof will and truly to be made we bind ourselves our heirs Ex. & adm. jointly and severely firmly by these presents, sealed with our seals and dated the 17th day June 1833   The Condition of the above obligation is such, that whereas the above bound John Howell, Jr. hath been appointed Constable for the County of Floyd.   If therefore the said John Howell Jr. shall well and truly encharge the duties of the said office of Constable in the said County of Floyd Then the above obligation to be void else to remain in full force and virtue   witness: M. The Condition of the above obligation as such that whereas the above bound Benjamin Howell is constituted and appointed Sheriff of the County of Floyd by commission from the Governor under the seal of the Commonwealth dated the 10th. day of December 1841.  If therefore the said Benjamin Howell shall well and truly collect and receive all officer fees and dues put into his hand to collect and shall duly account for and pay the sum to the Officers to whom and for were respectively at such time as are prescribed and limitted by law.  And shall well and truly execute and does release make of all process and proceeds to him directed, and pay and satisfy all sum of money and Tobacco by him received by virtue of any such proof to the person or persons on to whom the sums are due, his her or their executors administrators or assignees.  And in all other things shall truly and faithfully execute and perform the said Office of Sheriff during the time of his continuance thence then the above obligation to be void otherwise to remain in full force and virtue ~  signed: Benjamin Howell, Jos. Helms, Job Wells, Thomas Banks & Pleasant Howell are held and firmly bound unto John Rutherford Esq. acting Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia and his successors for the use of the Commonwealth in the just and full sum of Ten thousand dollars current money in which payment well and truly is be made, we bind ourselves and each of our joint and several heirs, executors and administrators firmly by these presents Sealed with our Seals and dated this  21st day of March 1842 ~

The Condition of this obligation is such that whereas the above bound Benjamin Howell is constituted and appointed Sheriff of the County of Floyd by a commission from under the seal of this Commonwealth dated the 10th day of December 1841.   If therefore the said Benjamin Howell shall well and truly collect all Levies and Poor rates and account for and pay the same in such manner as is by law described.  And also all fines penalties and assessments accruing or becoming due to the Commonwealth in the said County and shall also account for and pay the sums to the Treasurer of the Commonwealth for the time being for the use of this Commonwealth in like manner as is or shall be directed in case of public taxes.  And shall in all other things truly and faithfully execute this said Office of Sheriff during his continuance therein.  Then the above obligation to be void else to remain in full force and Virtue~    Acknowledged in open Court     signed: Benjamin Howell, Jos. The Condition of the above obligation is such that whereas the above bound Benjamin Howell is constituted and appointed Sheriff of the County of Floyd by Commission from the Governor under the Seal of the Commonwealth dated the 17th day of December 1842 of therefore the Said Benjamin Howell Shall well and truly collect and receive all officers fees and dues put into his hand to collect and Shall duly account for and pay the Same to the Officers to whom such fees are due respectively at such times as are prescribed and executed by law, and shall well and truly execute and due return make of all process and, proceeds to him directed, and pay and satisfy all sums of money and tobacco by him record by virtue of such process to the person or persons to whom the Same are due, his her or their executors, administrators or assigns and in all other things, Shall truly and faithfully execute and perform the Said office of Sheriff during the time of his Continuance therein then the above obligation to be void otherwise to remain in full force and virtue    signed: Benjamin Howell, Jos. Charles Turman patented to Beaufort Howell from the Commonwealth in 1845 also one tract containing 1 acre of land including the dwelling house of said Beaufort Howell where he now resides on the waters of the west fork of Little river.  Also the following property two double geared carding machines two picking machines two bureaus four bedsteads and bedding one safe and all the dresserware one gray mare one mans saddle one womans saddle one soerrel mare one pair saddlebags all kitchen furniture one large dying kettle and all the fixtures of the said Beaufort Howells dying establishment one bay draft? twelve portraits the claim Beaufort Howell had against Robert Wickham for the sale of a certain tract of land David Howell sell unto George Robinbaum, Jackson Godbey three certain tracts of land one tract containing 100 acres known as the home tract on which said David Howell resides one tract containing 225 acres known as the mill place one other of 50 acres adj. the same three tracts of land embrace the land on which the said David Howell lives Beaufort Howell mills and dwelling house and are one & one half miles from Jacksonville on the waters of the south fork of Little River and further the said Beufort hath given the following property one big wheel and little wheel six chairs 10 split bottom chairs one horse patent plow one shovel plow one disk plow one pair gears one weeding hoe one ax one wooden clock . . .
