David DeHoog was born October 11, 1863 in Missouri the son of Gerhard Gerrit DeHoog and Maria Van Geyl. David married Mary Weatherford June 16. 1886 St. Louis, Missouri Roy Gerhad DeHoog was born October 20, 1893 in St. Louis the son of David DeHoog and Mary Weatherford. Fern Rosella DeHoog was born November 11, 1911 in St. Louis the daughter of Roy Gerhard DeHoog and Nancy Pearl Slightom. David's parents, Gerhard and Maria, and sister, Magtilda, arrived in New York May 18, 1848 from Rotterdam, Holland on Brig Amicitia. They had two children born in Holland, Dirk and Maggeltje (Magtilda), in Berkel en Rodenrijs and seven children born in Missouri. Dirk died in Berkel en Rodenrijs when he was one year old. The first record found for Gerhard is the 1860 Missouri Census where it shows the first child born in Missouri 1850. No records have been found so far between May 1848 and 1850. In the 1860 and 1870 Missouri Census records, they are listed in Central Township, Creve Coeur, which is now part of St. Louis County, Missouri. It is believed Gerhard was a Campbellite Minister and, perhaps, one of the reasons for his immigration to America following the Restoration Movement of Barton A. Stone, Thomas and Alexander Campbell. By 1880, some of the children had married and settled in the Kirkwood, Webster Groves areas of St. Louis. Some owned and operated construction, carpentry and grain businesses in these areas. Others were employed by the Railroad. Many records have been found for the children of Gerhard and Maria in St. Louis, Kirkwood and Webster Groves, Missouri. The family of David DeHoog was living in Carondelet, St. Louis, Missouri 1900. David was employed as a Yardmaster for the Railroad. Mary and David DeHoog married June 16, 1886 St. Louis, Missouri. They separated in 1907 and filed for divorce March 15, 1907. It was dismissed - lack of prosecution. In the 1910 Missouri Census, Mary is recorded as divorced. Mary and some of her children went to California after 1910. It is possible David DeHoog was already in California. Mary later married Mr. McAdams in California. |
