Footprints in the sand,
point where you are going,
let you see what you've accomplished,
show you where you've been.

Footprints start out as 1 set,
then grow into a pair,
parallelled in stride,
together always there.

Then the footprints turn to more,
into two or three or four,
all around the loving pair,
zig-zagging all the way.

Then as fast as they were made,
all the footprints start to fade,
leaving the pair alone again,
to continue on their journey.

And the pair continues on,
through all sorts of weather,
the years go by and by,
they are so happy to be together.

But then one of the pair grows weak,
and suddenly they are gone,
leaving only a set behind,
so the set continues on.

Then the pace begins to slow,
and the stride has lost all pep,
this delicate set of footprints,
have taken their last step.

And as the tide rolls in to shore
to wash the steps away,
somewhere in the distance,
you can hear the children play.

Their footprints will continue on,
across the vast, bright shore,
and continue on the legacy,
of those that went before.

Footprints in the sand,
point where you are going,
let you see what you've accomplished,
show you where you've been.......
And where you hope to be.
