When he was 4 his family moved to Cushing, Howard Co NE, just south of
Spaulding, Greeley Co NE. He and his brother gathered “buffalo chips” for the
kitchen stove. Then in 1900 they moved again, to Boise ID. He was known as
“Warren”, and was named after a doctor in Fullerton. The doctor offered to pay
for support and college for the boy, if they would name him Warren and
call him “Wad”. His parents refused the offer. “Warren” went to high school in
Meridian, and then to the University of Idaho, class of 1920.
He worked as County Agricultural Agent, and Supervisor, for 20 years.
Before retiring he was Agricultural Estension Organization and Methods
Specialist for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Belgian Congo, Pakistan,
and Washington D.C., for a total of about 3 years. He also served as a 4-H club
leader, and a State County Agent leader.

They first lived and farmed in Pearl Township, Sully Co. The next
winter, 1951-2, they were pretty much snowed in, and Phyllis and a neighbor
wife communicated at night by lights and Morse Code, there being few telephones
in the area by that time. In 1954 they moved to Elk Township, Sully Co, and in
1955 to nearby Lake Chapelle in Hyde County, where they farmed until 1973.
Finally they moved back to Onida in Sully County. Meade raised sheep until
1960, when he became one of the first in the area to raise Charolais

years, in Europe. Lorraine received a private pilot’s license in 1941, and
worked as an accountant at several airports, and for Barber’s Service Station.
She delivered light aircraft in a five state area.

Lyn had been married before, and had a son Thomas Patrick, who was then
adopted by Russell. After her husband
died, Lyn went to Kelowna, BC, Canada.
Russ was born in a “dug-out”, a hole in the ground with plank and dirt
roof. He was left-handed, and became one of the most outstanding fiddle players
in the U.S. in the 1930-1960 era. When he was learning to play, “Papa” made him
learn on a right-handed fiddle, because he might have to borrow someone else’s
instrument some day. Lefty played in a number of traveling bands in the 30’s.
Later he worked with a number of aircraft companies during World War II.

Myrle and his brother Theron helped build the E W Marland Mansion in
Ponca City. Merle played guitar and piano for a living, working all over
Oklahoma and North Texas. He was once hired by “Pretty Boy” Floyd, famous bank
robber, to play in a 15 minute film being made about Floyd’s life. The movie was supposed to show that Floyd
was not so bad after all!
Merle owned the Riverside Dance Hall in Phoenix with Mozzelle’s father,
and another man. They finally sold in
1963 when the Mafia “made them an offer they couldn’t refuse”. Myrle moved to
Las Vegas and played in the Hofbrau for many years. He never had lessons, but
could play anything you could name or hum a few bars of. He loved to play
“stump the piano player”. He never lost!

teletype to others who don’t have that equipment, by reading messages
