White City 24 Sep 1955, daughter of Hamilton Parr and Mary Priscilla (DYE)
RINARD, who came to Kansas from Rinard Mills, Monroe Co OH; r Parkerville.
Birdie was born in those pioneer days in a stone house built on the
Indian Reservation southeast of Council Grove. One of these stone houses can be
seen today in Council Grove.
Percy was a farmer with 8 children. He was a serious and reclusive man
who worked very hard to manage with his indebtedness on the farm and his large
family. He raised cattle and hogs and did some general farming. He was proud of
the fact that he was able to “pay off the farm” before he died.
Birdie was born on the Kaw Indian Reservation southeast of Council
Grove. She became a writer and aspired to be a poet. She wrote a history of
Morris County. After her husband died, Birdie stayed on the farm until ill
health required her to live in a rotating pattern with her married children.
She was concerned for much of her lifetime with her son Percy, who was mentally
ill. [~ Corresp:William Churchman ~]

Mary was a hard worker who believed that one
should always be busy. This philosophy caused her to be
uncomfortable when she took any time off. She
was in the second class to graduate from Parkersville High School,
after which she taught school until she was
married. She was active in Minerva Club, and HDU. She made beautiful
quilts, knitted and made crocheted
doilies.
Lee was one who genuinely liked people. Although he went only thru the 8th grade, he
was intelligent, and held
School Board, Town and County offices. While
serving as County Commissioner of Morris County, he participated in
the construction of a new courthouse, where
his name may be seen on the cornerstone plaque. He liked playing
cards, dominoes, and horseshoes.

Ernest and Mary Grace had 3 children: John, b 1932, Robert, b
1933, and Patricia Ruth, b 1937.
Louise and Patricia provided most of the information about this
branch of the family. Ernest and Louise
had 3 children, 2 of whom lived.
Ernest served in World War II, in the 88th
division in Italy. He was wounded in Italy, and was with the
first group to march into
Rome. He was a tool-and-die maker by trade. He worked for Connecticut
Electric Switch Company until age 84. He was a Volunteer Fireman
in Bantam, and a Mason. He loved
vegetable and flower gardening. Ruth was an avid Yankee Baseball
fan.
Patricia tells an amazing story. Her mother left the family, and
the children were separated into
different families at an early age. Her brothers were cared for by
the Morgan family, and she by the
Harrises. Recently Patricia, who knew nothing about her original
family found out she had been
adopted, so started a search for her original family. She found
her original roots in the Bridgeport
Newspapers. She had survived a bad fall from a building when she
was about 2. This was written up in
the paper at that time, when she was with her original family - so
she was able then to trace and find
her brothers. She realized then that she had gone to school with
them, without knowing they were her
brothers. In the meantime the Morgans had been informed by friends
that Patricia had fallen and died!

Chepachet in Gloucester RI 9 Oct 1931; m/1 Hardin Co IA 8 Jan 1880 Josephine L GREER,
b IA 1860/1, daughter of Allen and Rebecca (BRADFIELD) GREER.
William met and ?m/2 Clara Mahala CRIPPEN, who d 1966, daughter
of John and Mary (GREER) CRIPPEN. Mary GREER was a sister
to Josephine, above, so that Clara was a niece of Josephine.
In 1880 they lived in Jackson, Hardin Co IA, and by 1894 in Dows, Wright
Co IA. William was a farmer in 1880. In 1894 he was operating a farm implement
business. That year a fire devastated much of the center of Dows, and his
business was destroyed. In 1900 he was an assistant bank cashier.
Then life suddenly changed. In 1901 William met Clara, and apparently
they decided to go off together. Clara first went on her own to West Virginia
“for health reasons”, (pregnancy). William joined her a year later, and from
there they went to Virginia, and finally in 1918 to Rhode Island. They both
changed their names, to prevent detection by their old families. He was known
as Joel William BURTON, and she as Clara CLARK. Joel William
never informed his Burton descendants of his prior marriage.
A divorce brought by Josephine occurred on 24 Mar 1908, on grounds of
desertion of more than 4 years. This was after her husband had 3 children by
Clara. Joel W may never have known of this divorce. It is not known if Joel and
Clara ever married. Clara also never told her children of her prior name and
ancestry. She had a stroke and lived the last 20 years of her life as an
invalid. [~

In 1912 he went to stay with his sister, as did his brother William H,

pistol. The police then put him in jail for the night.
