Turkey Round Up
One day Uncle Bud (Elmer Cecil), Uncle Roy (Ehle) and Doug Lloyd were out traveling the back trails in Harrison, MI looking for turkey. Doug was driving the pick-up, and Uncles Bud & Roy were standing in the bed just behind the cab of the truck -- shotguns loaded and ready. They found a gaggle of wild turkeys walking down the middle of the trail and let two shots ring out without slowing the truck. Three turkeys were down, and since turkeys may not be the smartest birds in the world, they fled single file down the middle of trail (perhaps a bit fast). Alas, another bird lost his life that day.
Now, not only was this pouching, but the DNR was trying to reintroduce these wild birds back into the area. So our wilely hunters thought it would be best to gather their bounty and head back home. Not wanting to be too greedy.
For those of you who do not know the fine art of dressing out birds they need to be dunked into boiling water to remove the feathers. To preserve peace within the home, it is best to do this outside -- precisely what our three scalawags did. However, while they were dipping and plucking, a DNR search plane flew overhead. Obviously, someone other than the birds had heard the gunfire.
Uncle Roy, always the responsible one, stepped outside the tree line that was covering there dastardly deed and pointed to Uncle Bud and yelled, "He did it". Fortunately for our wayward boys, the DNR was unable to see them. Several meals were enjoyed, with wild turkey as the main course, and Uncle Roy lost a bit of trust amongst his cohorts.
