       John Ogger

Shortly after I started researching this line, I discovered what a real challenge it was going to be to locate accurate documentation.  Some of the sons of John and Cecilia Ogger were not known by their given names.

As an example, Edwin was not known as Edwin nor even Ed, but Harry.  And Robert?  No, not Bob, but Tom.  I am still uncertain if Archie is really Archie Holly, or Holly Archie or none of the above.  Personally, I think it was all a deliberate plot by my ancestors to slowly drive me mad!  And it was not just the male offspring.  Cecilia is referred to as May (her middle name) and then there is my great aunt Emma May June Ogger.  With the numerous and various uniquely  'chosen' names by the children of John Ogger & Cecilia May Lafey the likelihood that I will make errors in my information is great to say the least.

Anyone who may find such errors are requested to contact me so corrections are made as quickly as possible.  If you have additional information, documents and/or photos you would like to share please e-mail me and I will make arragements to get that information added to the site.

I have recently received additional information relating to our Ogger family from Geoff Mather, the great great nephew of Mr. Thomas W. Sims, a friend and neighbor of John & Mae Ogger.

Thomas W. Sims with William Ogger

The following is an information about Mr Sims and an excerpt from his will that was sent to me by Geoff...

Thomas W Sims was born on 12 April 1844 in Swarkestone, Derbyshire, England.
He went to the USA in 1861 and married Katherine McCleod on 28 November 1870 in Saginaw, Michigan.  They had two daughters, Sarah Ann born in 1870 and Alice born in 1876.  I do not know what happened to the daughters. They apparently had 6 children according to the 1910 census, but I do not know the names of the others.

In the 1920 census he was living next door to the Oggers.

Thomas died on 31 July 1920

I have a copy of his will which was sent to one of his sisters who was a beneficiary. Here is an extract which refers to William Ogger...

Twelfth. I give, devise and bequeath to May Ogger, the mother of William Ogger, (who took care of me during my sickness), the sum and amount of One Hundred Dollars, which said amount is bequeathed by me to her for her
sole and separate use, and free from the debts and control of her husband John Ogger.

Thirteenth. I give, devise and bequeath to William Ogger, of Selkirk, Ogemaw County, in the State of Michigan, (the little boy who my wife desired me to adopt), the sum and amount of Five Hundred Dollars, which said sum
shall be invested by my executors, hereinafter named, and who are hereby appointed trustees for him until he has reached the age of Twenty-one years, upon the condition that when he attains the age of Twenty-one years, and if he is then of good, moral character, of which he must then satisfy my executors and trustees, then I direct my said executors and trustees to pay the same over to the said William Ogger, and I further direct my said executors
and trustees, of this my said will, if in their opinion they see fit, to expend any balance or all of the money arising from the investment of the said Five Hundred Dollars, during the minority of the said William Ogger, and my
said executors and trustees are hereby empowered and authorised so to do for the purpose of furnishing the said William Ogger with and education and for his maintenance just as they may see fit: and in the event of the death of the said William Ogger occurring before he attains the age of Twenty-one years, then it is my desire and my executors are hereby directed and instructed so to do, to turn in the said sum of Five Hundred Dollars so that the same shall form a part of my general estate, and I hereby direct and instruct my said executors and trustees, that in the event of the death of the said William Ogger before he attains the age of Twenty-one years, and in the
event that the said Five Hundred Dollars so bequeathed by me to the said William Ogger shall be turned in and form a part of my estate, then I give, devise and bequeath to the Trustees of the "Friends Church" at Selkirk, in the County of Ogemaw, in the State of Michigan, the sum and amount of Fifty Dollars, to be paid by my executors and trustees to the Trustees of the "Friends Church", towards the maintenance and support thereof.

The will was dated 3 Dec 1914
