Bennett, Omer
Omer Bennett was born 30 July 1901 in Pear, Raleigh County, West Virginia. Omer served in the United States Marine Corps. At the age of 20 years he married Edith Cecil on 22 May 1922 in West Virginia.
Omer Bennett enlisted in the United States Marine Corps for the term of two years on 16 Apr 1920. At the time of enlistment his occupation was a miner. He had to apply for and was granted a waiver due to the fact that he was underweight at the time of entering the Marine Corps. Military file number 162423.
He embarked on aboard the USS Hendersen at Charleston, S.C. on 23 Feb 1921 for foreign shore service. Arrived at Port au Prince, Haiti, Feb 1921. There he participated in operations against the bandits in the district of Hinche, Rep. of Haiti from 2 Mar 1921 to 23 Apr 1921.
Later he embarked on board the USS Henderson at Cape Haitien, Haiti, 1 Apr 1922 and arrived and disembarked at Hampton Roads, VA, 13 Apr 1922, signed by L. Ladd, Capt. USMC. His character was listed as "Excellent". Also states awarded G. C. Med. No. 18677. He was dischaged as a Private 1st Class.
