Frances (Francis-depending on the source) Maude Friend outlived her husband, Homer D Custer by 58 years and nearly lived longer than the sum of her parents' ages. On New Year's Eve 1972, at 1:30 in the afternoon in her own home, she succumed to arterial sclerosis an condition she battled for years. Her physician A. E. Mance of Oakland, MD had been treating her since 1950 and last saw Frances alive on December 31st, the day she died.

It appears that Frances stayed in Sang Run after Homer died. Her occupation is listed as housewife. Whether she kept the farm going is not clear from the documentation on these pages.
