JANS Generations

1. Jans Johan  c.1690's & Martha Sohn

I began researching my husband Max's maternal Jans family after my mother in-law Helga passed away. Helga was very proud of her Danish ancestry and was eager to know all about them. Just before Helga's death in 1990 she made contact with a distant cousin Anna Grau in Marslev Denmark and a few years later I too corresponded with Anna's son Per Grau Moller. Information on this site has been gained from our Danish cousins, Helga's and my own research, Debbie Van Corler, and that of another cousin John Jans in Queensland who without his hard work we would know very little of of Jans ancestry back from 1815 to 1690's. He obtained the early Danish /German parish records from the Church of Latter Day Saints and painstakingly searched through the reels to find births, baptisms, marriages and deaths. It is thanks to John that I too now have copies of these early records.

Born: Johan Jans was born c.1690/1700

Married: Johan wed Martha Sohn c.1722. They had at least one son Lorenz Jans.

2nd Generation

Lorenz Jans c.1722

Born / Died: Lorenz Jans death entry in the Ketting Parish Register appears to say Lorenz was born c.1722 around Christmas in Erldenbottel/or maybe Koldenbytel Denmark, and died 17 Oct 1782 at St Peters Denmark. Married: Lorenz married Frauke Jurgens in 1747 Vollerweik Denmark.

Wife Born/ Died:  Frauke Jurgens: b.1724 - 1804 St Peters Denmark (parish reg.), the daughter of Broder Jurgens.

Peter Jans 1756

Born: Peter Jans was born 1756 St Peter 4th child of Lorenz and Frauke. 

Married: Peter married Neela Peters on 14th Nov. 1779 Vollerweik Denmark.

Wife Born: Neela Peters birth date and place are not know, her parents were Jacob Hans Peters  and Anna Broders

Death: Peter died 18th August 1830 at Vollerweik, Denmark.

Lorenz Jans 1780

Born: Lorenz Jans born 15 Aug 1790 (parish reg) St Peters Schleswig Holstein, eldest son of Peter & Neela Jans.

Note: Denmark ruled all of Schleswig-Holstein, including Lübeck and parts of Hamburg and Oldenburg, until 1864.

Marriage: Lorenze married Anna Karine Anderson

Wife Born: Ann Karina Anderson was born 1785 Skiend Porsgrund Norway.

Died:  Ann died 13th December 1860 at Ullerup Denmark.

Died: Lorenze died 6th June 1864 Ullerup Denmark.

1. Peter Jans  born 12 Aug 1812 in Toenning.  He married on 30 Jun 1838 in Denmark Katharine Marie Grethe Jensen Jans Paradis, born 12 Oct 1815 in Denmark; died 19 Sep 1868 in Miang, Hørup parish, Als Sønder, Sønderborg, Denmark, daughter of Jens Jørgensen Paradis and Kathrine Marie Christiansen Paradies.
