Born: ANDREAS "ANDREW" JANS was born 26 Nov 1846 in Ketting Augustenborg Denmark, son of

Christian Constantine Ferdinand Jans & Anna Maria Grau.

Marriage: He married Ellen / Ellenor Theresa Hansen on 11 Feb 1882 at Emerald Hill Victoria in a double wedding ceremony brothers marrying sisters. (Marriage Reg. no.1060).

Wife Born: Ellen was born 1868 in McMahons Creek Vic.. a daughter of Fredrick Hansen & Maria Clark.

Death: Andrew died suddenly on 31 May 1908 at Warburton Vic.

Notes for ANDREW JANS:

Andrew arrived Australia on 17th Sept 1866 aboard the "Cabot"a 390 ton ship sailing from Hamburg to Melbourne. His age is given as 20 years occupation farmer.

On a shipping list outwards passengers from Victoria to new Zealand in 1867 aboard the "Alhambra" we find Andrew as passenger number 361 single male aged 21 years occupation miner sailing from Melbourne to the port of Hokitika on the 5th Jan

1867. What Andrew did in the 15 years from this time untill his marriage is unknown but it seems as though like his brotherJohn gold fever was in their blood.

Andrew and his brother John married sisters the daughters of Fredrick and Maria Hansen. Andrew was aged 34yrs and his wife Eleanor twenty years younger at only 14 years old.

His brother John was twenty one years older than his bride Louisa they were 38yrs and 17yrs.

He married (1) FREDA RUTH HOLLIS 29 Jun 1940 in St James Old Cathedral West Melb, daughter of HAROLD HOLLIS and FREDA REPPKE. She was born 1921 in Fairfield Vic, and died 23 Nov 1976 in Black Rock Vic.
