From the minutes of the Fairfax VA Monthly Meeting.

On 25 November 1758, Ann Mead, daughter of William, granted certificate to Falls MM, PA. On 31 Mar 1764, dated 1 Feb 1764, clear with respect to marriage. On 31 Aug 1771 reported married out of unity and disowned for same on 26 Oct 1771. Her acknowledgement of 24 Aug 1782 was accepted and she was reinstated. Ann (now MASON) was reported married out of unity on 22 Sep 1787 and disowned 24 Nov 1787.

Benjamin Mead was condemned by Fairfax VA MM and disowned 29 Feb 1772. His acknowledgement of 25 November 1780 was accepted 27 Jan 1781 and he was reinstated. His four children Margaret, Christian (Christiana ?), Asenath and Samuel received at request of father, same date. Benjamin Mead of Loudoun Co VA married 31 Mar 1785 at Goose Creek MH Ann PATTISON of same place.

Elizabeth Mead (now WILKS) was reported married out of unity 24 Jun 1758, and was disowned 30 Sep 1758. Elizabeth Mead (now POTTS) was reported married contrary to discipline, 30 Dec 1769, to Ezekiel Potts. Both being members, disowned 28 Apr 1770.

Hannah Mead requested certificate to Falls MM PA on 31 Jan 1750. A committee was appointed to prepare her certificate. On 31 Aug 1754, Hannah Mead (now THOMAS) offered paper of acknowledgement of her marriage out of unity. It is temporarily accepted and she is taken under the care of the meeting. She is reinstated on 25 Feb 1758.

On 30 Aug 1747, Margaret Mead, wife of Samuel, was received on certificate dated 2 Jul 1747 from Falls MM PA. On 29 Jul 1758 she is reported "clear on her daughter's marrying out of unity." On 26 Oct 1765, Margaret and three of their minor children, Richard, Ruth and Margaret Jr, were granted certificate to Salem MM NJ.

Martha Mead was granted certificate to Falls MM PA on 27 Dec 1760.

Mary Mead married out of unity Moses RHODES and was disowned 30 Aug 1747. She wanted to make satisfaction but her husband objected. She was reinstated on 29 Apr 1758 and her children received on her request. As a widow, on 8 Feb 1775 at Fairfax MH, she married John BROWN of Loudoun Co VA.

Rachel Mead, daughter of Samuel, was reported (21) or (24) Nov 1764 for "leaving home clandestinely with a young man apprenticed to her father" and marrying out of unity. She was disowned by the meeting.

Samuel Mead, formerly of Falls MM PA, "now residing within the limits of Goose Creek *PM, where he has lived for a number of years", disowned for disunity on 28 Apr 1759, at the request of Falls MM PA, which reported "Tho he appeared to some degree a Friend, his conduct has been inconsistent with Friends' Principles."
* Preparative Meeting

Samuel Mead Jr on 21 Dec 1765 requested certificate to Salem MM NJ. Certificate was granted 25 Jan 1766.

Sarah Mead, daughter of Samuel, requested certificate to Salem MM NJ on 28 Sep 1765. Certificate was granted 26 Oct 1765.

William Mead Jr on 25 Jan 1772, was granted certificate to South River MM VA.

From the minutes of the Goose Creek VA Monthly Meeting

Aquila Mead was reported married out of unity 3 Oct 1811 and disowned 28 Nov 1811. At his request, he was reinstated on 11 Jun 1840. His minor children Thomas, Jonathan and Joseph were received at the request of their father on 11 Mar 1841.

Asenath Mead, daughter of Benjamin, now wife of Stephen GREGG. Jr, reported married out of unity 30 Jun 1800 and was disowned 2 Mar 1801 "after long care" by the meeting.

Christiana Mead (daughter of Benjamin), now WHITE, reported married out of unity 29 Jun 1801 and disowned on 27 Jul 1801.

John Mead, son of Benjamin and Ann Pattison Mead (the former deceased) married at Goose Creek MH VA Mary HOLMES, daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth on 4 Oct 1810.

John Mead removed and was granted certificate to Stillwater MM OH on 14 Jun 1841.

Jonathan Mead reported married contrary to discipline 15 Mar 1849 and his acknowledgement accepted 12 Apr 1849. He was retained as a member.

Joseph Mead reported married out of unity 29 Jul 1813 and his acknowledgement accepted 2 Sep 1813. He was retained a member. Joseph removed and granted certficate to Indian Spring MM MD on 2 May 1816. He returned and was received on certificate from Indian Spring MM MD on 29 Jun 1820. He removed "some time past" and was granted certificate to Stillwater MM OH on 17 Nov 1831.

Margaret Mead was reported guilty of unchastity on 27 Jul 1801 and disowned 24 Aug 1801.

Mary Mead, nee Holmes, widow of John, married -2nd on 6 Apr 1820 Samuel HOGUE. Mary has children Joseph Philo, Benjamin and John by her first husband, John Mead.

Phebe G. Mead, nee Nichols reported married out of unity to Joseph Mead 14 Apr 1839. Her acknowledgement accepted and she was granted certificate to Plainfield MM OH on 13 May 1840.

Samuel Mead was reported guilty of fornication on 24 Jan 1803 and disowned 28 Feb 1803.

Thomas Mead reported married contrary to discipline 15 Mar 1849. His acknowledgement accepted and retained as a member 12 Apr 1849.

From the minutes of the South River VA Monthly Meeting.

William Mead Jr presented certificate from Fairfax MM VA on 16 May 1772.

William Mead under care of the meeting 18 Nov 1780 on complaint from Loudoun County. On 18 Jun 1781 he offered paper clearing himself of misconduct. This was not accepted and he was requested to produce a paper signed by Friends of Loudoun Co. On 20 Oct 1781 William was disowned.

From the minutes of the Fairfax VA Monthly Meeting.

Abigail Rhodes (now BROWN) reported married out of unity and disowned 24 Oct 1778. "She was timely precautioned."

Ann Rhodes reported 22 Dec 1781 "guilty of fornication. She shuns Friends and refuses to be seen." Disowned 23 Feb 1782.

Elizabeth Rhodes was "reported to have had an illegitimate child" 22 May 1779 and was disowned 28 Aug 1779.

Hannah Rhodes (now MEAD) married out of unity and was disowned 30 Dec 1769.

Joseph Rhodes granted certificate to South River MM VA on 23 Apr 1785. Clear with respect to marriage.

Mary Rhodes, daughter of Mary Mead Rhodes of Loudoun Co VA married 20 Oct 1773 at Fairfax MH VA Stephen MORLAN, son of William Morlan of same County.

Thomas Rhodes enlists as soldier and left these parts. Disowned 27 Sep 1777.

From the minutes of the Goose Creek VA Monthly Meeting.


Joseph Rhodes, son of Moses and Mary Mead Rhodes of Bedford Co VA presented certificate from South River MM VA 27 Apr 1786 that he is clear to marry. Married that date at Goose Creek MM, Loudoun Co VA, Martha DANIEL, daughter of William and Esther Daniel of Loudoun Co VA.

Martha Daniel(s) Rhodes, wife of Joseph, granted certificate 26 Jun 1786 to South River MM VA.

From the minutes of the South River VA Monthly Meeting.


Joseph Rhodes presented certificate from Fairfax MM VA dated 23 Apr 1785, clear to marry. On 18 Mar 1786 he was granted certificate to Goose Creek MM VA to marry.

Martha Rhodes, wife of Joseph, received on certificate from Goose Creek MM VA dated 26 Jun 1786.

Children of Joseph Rhodes and wife Martha are Amy Rhodes born 10 Dec 1791 and Moses Rhodes born 28 Apr 1794.
