BANKERT/BANKER/BANKARD REUNION
August 25-26, 2001
The first Bankert/Banker/Bankard Family Reunion for descendants of Johann Jacob Bankert and related lines was held on August 25-26, 2001, in Union Mills and Silver Run, Maryland. IT WAS A GREAT SUCCESS!!   Family members from as far away as Virginia, Tennessee, and New Jersey, as well as from various parts of Pennsylvania and Maryland attended, representing the Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Maryland branches of this extended family.

The first day of the reunion was a chance to socialize at a picnic at the Lions Club park in Union Mills, on property that had originally been owned by Jacob Bankert. We discussed some of the history of his settlement of the area, and why the history of the Bankert/Banker/Bankard families is a microcosm of the settling of America.  Here are some pictures of the picnic:

The second day of the reunion was spent talking about family research.  In these photos, Jan Bankert of York, Pennsylvania, took the group on a tour of St. Mary's cemetery in Silver Run, and he pointed out Johann Jacob Bankert's (1717-1789) headstone.  After the cemetery tour, the group went back into St. Mary's U.C.C. to share family histories, stories, and research.
