Miss Virgie Kesterson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T.D. Kesterson was united in marriage Saturday, May 24, 1919 to Rev. W.M. Hammond of South Carolina. The ceremony took place at the home of Rev. L.M. Proctor who officiated. The bride is a graduate of O.H.S. also of Louisville College where she took first honors and won a scolarship - which she gave to another girl who could not have had one otherwise. For the past two years, she has been Rev. Proctor's assistant and is entirely prepared to be an able helpmate to the young husband who is just taking charge of his first pastorate at Springfield, South Carolina. While the young people have been planning their marriage a month or so hence, an attack of paralysis for Rev. Hammond's mother restulte din hastily re- arranged plans. Mrs. Hammon returned to Odessa Saturday and left Wednesday night to join her husband in Louisville KY, en route to their new home. She is an excellent young woman and we with the rest of her friends wish that her life may be filled with happiness and service.

Virgie Kesterson Hammond, 89, a former pastor, college counselor and free- lance writer and a Washington area resident since 1968, died of cancer THursday at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Alexandria. She lived in Arlington with her daughter, Kestie V Hammond. Mrs Hammond was born in Odessa (Lafayette County) MO. She graduated in 1917 from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville and attended the University of Missouri. She served as assistant pastor of the Baptist Church in Jefferson City, Mo., from 1917 to 1919. Later she assisted her husband, the Rev. W.M. Mrs Hammond also had contributed free-lance articles for magazines and newspapers in this country, Canada and England. She was formerly active in the Mount Vernon Baptist Church in Arlington and in Bible study groups. Besides her daughter, survivors include a son, W M Hammond of Philadephia. T O G E T H E R

We climbed the hill, my dear and I
We left the pleasant vale below
And took the way that toilers go -
Twas weary, dreary weather,
That we were young and Strong and, Oh,
We were Together

We climbed the hill, my love and I
Much, much, we left upon the way
For those who climb must dearly pay
And youth waits on no other
Our joy was that from day to day
We were Together

We climbed the hill, my wife and I
We gained the summit all things fair
Spread out before our vision there
And it was sunny weater
But little did we know or care
Save this, that God had heard our prayer
An left us still Together
