Mrs. Gladys (Hunter) Kesterson of Lakeland died of heart failure
Tuesday (Dec. 30, 2003) in Altamonte Springs. She was 89. Born in Charlotte, N.C., on
April 15, 1914, she came to Lakeland from Durham, N.C., in 1972. She was a
sewing instructor. She was a member of Christians Alive and attended Covenant Presbyterian
Church. Mrs. Kesterson was preceded in death by her husband, Lucius C. Kesterson. She is survived by her daughter, Janice Tilley, Maitland; sister, Vashti Davis, Charlotte, N.C.; one grandchild; three greatgrandchildren. Boulder City pioneer and former Henderson City Councilman Robert Earl Kesterson died Sunday at his home in Henderson. He was 81. Kesterson was born Aug. 12, 1920, in Key West, Fla., and at age 11 moved to Boulder City with his parents. He served in the Navy as a Seebee in World War II, where he saw action in the Pacific and Iwo Jima. He was called back into service during the Korean War and served in Naval Intelligence in Japan. In 1953, he and his wife, Lorna, moved to Henderson, where he served on the second City Council formed after the city was incorporated. During his four years on the council from 1957 to 1961, "the city was struggling, there wasn't much money to do anything with, they had a lot of problems, like whether to allow gambling and where to put in the water lines," Lorna Kesterson said Wednesday.
Lorna Kesterson was mayor of Henderson from 1985 to 1989. A civil engineer, Robert Kesterson worked for the federal government in Boulder City, at Nellis Air Force Base and Lake Mead. In 1985, he retired from the Department of Energy. Kesterson was active with the Boy Scouts and worked with youth both through the Mormon Church and the PTA.
He is survived by his wife, four sons, Robert and Roger, both of Mountain View, Wyo.; and Donal and James, both of Henderson; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Thursday from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the Cholla Street LDS Chapel in Henderson, and services will begin immediately after. A graveside service will be held at 10:40 a.m. Friday at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Palm Mortuary in Henderson is handling arrangements.
Mrs. Myrtle Bell Ivey, 80, who lived in Clinton for more than 40 years, died of cancer at 3:15 p.m. Sunday in Oak Ridge Hospital. Mrs. Ivey resided at 615 Fowler St. and her son Arvil Ivey lived with her. She was born in Campbell County and moved her after the death of her husband, Luther Ivey, in 1927. Mrs. Ivey was a member of Second Baptist Church. As a pastime she enjoyed sewing. Beside her husband, Mrs. Ivey was preceded in death by a son, Earl Ivey, who died in 1967. She is survived by two other sons, James Clyde and Luther Monroe Ivey, both of Clinton, one daughter, Mrs. Margaret Davis of Rapid City, S.D., two sisters, Mrs. Bertha White of Linton, Ind, and Mrs. Goldie Alton of Toledo,O., 17 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren. Services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Second Baptist Church. The Rev. George Williams and the Rev. Kenneth Ivey, a grandson from Titusville,Fla.officiated. Burial was in Jellico Cemetery.

Margaret Louise Davis, 83, of Clinton, died Monday, Mar 20, 2006 at Methodist Medical Center. She is preceded in death by husband; Evan Garland Davis; parents, Luther and Myrtle Cooper Ivey; brothers, William, Earl, Arvil, and Clyde Ivey. She is survived by two daughters; Judith Anne and husband, Patrick Irgens of Indianapolis and Melida Susan Davis and Jim Simmons Davis of Knoxville; one son, Stephen Eugene Davis of Clinton; five grandchildren, Michael Knowles and wife, Jamie Irgens of Indianapolis, Meredith Ivey Irgens and Jimmy Galliher of Cape Coral, FL, Ryan Evan Aafedt and Nicki Bargerstock of Knoxville, Stephen Samuel Davis and Matthew Franklin Davis, both of Houston; a great grandson, Jacob Evan Irgens of Indianapolis; brother and sister in law, Luther and wife, Alma Ivey of Clinton; brother in law and wife, James L and wife, Eula Davis of Port St John, FL; three sisters in law, Violet Ivey and Pauline Ivey, both of Clinton, and Sammie and husband, John Wright of Daytona Beach Shores, FL; and many nieces, nephews, and neighbors in Tacora Hills. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Thursday, Mar 23, 2006 at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 11 AM Friday, Mar 24, 2006 in the chapel with the Rev Kenneth Ivey officiating. Burial will follow at McCarty Woodhaven Memorial Gardens Anderson TN. Evan Garland Davis, age 81, of Clinton, passed away Friday, Mar 29, 2002 at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. He was born Sep 21, 1920 in Petros. He retired from the Boeing Company in Oak Ridge in quality control with approximately 35 years of service. He was a United States Navy veteran who served during World War II on the USS Hermitage and USS Russell in the Pacific and North Africa. Preceded in death by parents; Sam and Willie Foster Davis; brothers, Eugene Davis and D L Davis. Survivors: wife of 56 years; Margaret Ivey Davis of Clinton; daughters, Judith Irgens and husband, Patrick of Indianapolis, IN, Melinda Aafedt of Clinton; son, Stephen Davis and wife, Jan of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Michael Irgens, Meredith Irgens, Ryan Aafedt, Stephen S Davis, Matthew Davis; sister, Sammie Wright and husband, John of Daytona, FL; brother, J L Davis and wife, Eula of Cocoa, FL; brother in law, Luther Ivey and wife, Alma of Clinton; sisters in law, Pauline Ivey of Clinton and Violet Ivey of Clinton; a host of nieces, nephews, and special friends. The family received friends 7-9 PM Sunday, Mar 31, 2002 at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton. Graveside service was held at 1 PM Monday, Apr 1, 2002 at Woodhaven Memory Gardens in Claxton with the Rev Kenneth Ivey and the Rev James H Barnes officiating.
