Weldon Wayne Kesterson
Born 15 July 1940 the son of Burnis & Hazel (Justus) Kesterson. He died on the 8th of August 1961 just 3 weeks after being discharged from the army while swimming in Lake Greeson, Pike Co AR. (Contributed by Evelyn McLemore, his sister) This was Weldon in 1958. He spent 3 years in the Army, mostly in Korea then one year at San Antonio. He was discharged on July 14, 1961 and arrived in Dierks. The next day, July 15, 1961 was his 21st birthday. He said on his birthday, "Yesterday I was discharged from the Army and today I am 21 years old, and a man!" I was there to meet him. We visited a few days and I returned home. . About 2 weeks later we bought a house and he came to Oklahoma City to help us move. He spent a week, and while here I helped him fill out an application for Civil Service employment at Tinker AFB. He would move here if he was accepted. I was expecting a child - just , 3 months along. He went home to Dierks and 3 or 4 days later was drowned. he died one day after my birthday. He was really a special brother and a person. When he was here he said, "Evelyn, I hope you and Jim have a boy." We did of course and Kevin is named for him. Kevin Wayne McLemore. In September, 6 weeks later he received a letter that he was to report to OKC to take the Civil Service Test.
