OBITUARY: Floyd Henry Kesterson was born November 26, 1927, the son of Niles and Anna Thielen Kesterson. he died Saturday, November 12, 2005, at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, at the age of seventy-seven.
Floyd was born in Templeton, Iowa, and lived with his family on a farm in Carroll County. He received his education in a rural school near his home. In April of 1946, Floyd entered the United States Navy, serving in Pearl Harbor. While in the service, Floyd received his GED. He received his honorable discharge on January 13, 1948, and returned to Carroll, where he worked for a short time before attending barber school. In 1951, Floyd started his own Barber Shop in Charter Oak.
On February 9, 1953, Floyd was united in marriage to Mary Constance Dietz at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Charter Oak, Iowa. The couple made their home in Charter Oak and were blessed with the birth of seven children. Floyd retired after many years in the barber shop due to health reasons.
He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Charter Oak and the Charter Oak American Legion and the Ute V.F.W. He enjoyed wood working, yard work and socializing over a good game of Euchre. He also enjoyed indulging in sweets.
Floyd was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Niles P. Kesterson. Survivors include his wife, Connie of Charter Oak; five sons, Ronald; Steven, both of Harlan; Mark and his wife, Angelina of Woodridge, Illinois; Charles and his wife, Lynn Holstein of Denison and Jean Rudzinski of Montgomery, Illinois; fifteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two brothers, Jack Kesterson and his wife, Gisela of Iowa City; Ray Kesterson and his wife, Shirley of Spencer; one sister-in-law, Agnes Kesterson of Fort Dodge; other relatives and many friends.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 19, 2005, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Charter Oak. Fr. Donald Slaven served as Celebrant of the Mass with interment at St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery in Charter Oak. Organist, Colleen Henderson provided the organ accompanist for soloist, Jim Jurgens. Lector was Ray Thielen and gift bearers were Nicholas and Jerilee Holstein. Those serving as pallbearers were: David A. Kesterson, David Kesterson, Matt Kesterson, Torn Kesterson, Jim Kesterson and Joe Kesterson. Military honors were the Charter Oak American Legion Post 66 and the Ute VFW Post 5605. A Knights of Columbus Rosary was held in Charter Oak. The family invited everyone to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Altar Society.
