VINETTIE (FIELDEN) GRAHAM SIMPSON

Vinettie, daughter of John and Sally Fielden, was born Feb. 1, 1879, and died July 11, 1954. She was 75 years old. In 1912 she was married to Floyd Scott Graham. To this union four children were born. In 1927 on the 27th of August she was married to Ivey Simpson. He died May 4th, 1946. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Delia Hartgraves, Houston, and one son, Wilford Graham, Cabool; nine grandchildren; two sisters, Nan Simpson, Mtn Grove, and Iva Wood, Cabool.

She lived her entire life in Texas County. She joined the Missionary Baptist Church and was one of the three who started the Hamilton Creek Church. Years later she, with her husband , went to the Free Will Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 13, (1954) at the Hamilton Creek Church. Burial was in the church cemetery under the direction of the Elliott Funeral Home of Houston. (Note: She is buried in the Jarrett cemetery.)

Ivey Alfonso Simpson, son of Thomas and Margrett Simpson was born at Briar Bluff, Henry County, Illinois, Jan. 5, 1885 and died May 4, 1946 making his age 61 years 4 months 30 days. He was married to Nettie Graham the year of 1927.

He leaves to mourn his departure his wife and 2 step-children, Mrs. Johnnie Hartgraves of Houston, Wilford Graham of the home. There is one brother, Ralph Simpson of Moore, Oklahoma, 2 sisters, Mrs. Mary Huntley and Mrs. Agnes Eichie of Rock Island, Illinois to mourn his departure, one step daughter, Iva Graham and 3 sisters, Mrs. Maggie Plemmons, Mrs. Edith Huntley and Mrs. Lizzie Blackett and 2 brothers, his twin William Simpson and Thomas Simpson all preceded him at an early age and in the later years he joined the Free will Baptist church. He always lived a good christian life and will be missed by all who knew him.

Services were held by Rev. George Scott at Hamilton Creek church. Burial was made in Jarrett cemetery by the Elliott Funeral Home.

John & Delia (Graham) Hartgraves

Delia Belle Hartgraves, 76, daughter of Floyd Scott Graham and Vinettie Fielden Graham Simpson, was born Jan 3, 1915, at Cabool. She died Dec. 20, 1991, at their home near Houston after a long illness. She married John Hartgraves Nov. 5, 1934, at Cabool. She worked for 19 years in the housekeeping and laundry department at Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston, where she was a supervisor when she retired. Mrs. Hartgraves was a member of the First Christian Church in Houston. She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather, Ivy (Ivey) Simpson; one sister, Iva Graham; one infant brother and two infant sons. Surviving are her husband, Johnny L. Hartgraves of Houston; one son, John Hartgraves, Jr. of Vandalia; one brother, Wilford Graham of Cabool; and two grandchildren. Services were Dec. 23 at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel with John Frakes officiating. Burial was in Pine Lawn Cemetery.

John Hartgraves Johnnie Leonard Hartgraves, 86, son of Leonard and Lillie Ragsdale Hartgraves, was born Nov. 5, 1914. He died March 15, 2001, at Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston.

He married Delia Belle Graham in 1934 at Cabool. They had three children. Mr. Hargraves worked for Tuttle Utility Gas for more than 40 years, delivering bottled gas and servicing appliances. He enjoyed his job because of the many people he met and the lasting friendships he cultivated throughout the area. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 57 years; two infant sons, Leon and Hubert; one brother, William; three sisters, Ellen, Delia and Helen; and an infant grandson.

Surviving are his son, John Hartgraves, Jr. of Mexico, Mo.; a sister, Flossie Murr of Houston, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Services were March 19 at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel with Jeff Moore officiating. Burial was in the Pine Lawn Cemetery

Mrs. Delia Graham (first wife of Wilford Graham) was buried at the Garret (Jarrett) cemetery Thursday afternoon.

Miss Iva Graham was born July 23, 1919, and died July 4, 1934, at the age of 14 years. She leaves to mourn her loss her mother, Mrs. Nettie Simpson; step-father, Ivey Simpson; a sister, Delia Graham, a brother, Wilford Graham, and a host of relatives and friends. Iva will be greatly missed by the community but we know Iva is at rest.

Funeral services were conducted at the home by Rev. Geroge Scott and the body was laid to rest in the Hamilton Creek cemetery (Jarrett cemetery)
