Jemima (Armstrong) Porter Montel Family

Jemima Armstrong Porter was born on the 26th of February 1874 in Omaha, Gallatin County IL. She was the 4th child of William & Elizabeth Hannah (Shook) Armstrong. Her father died when she was about 7 years of age so times were never really easy for this wonderful lady. When she was about 13 years of age her mother remarried to Andrew Austin and by 1900 the family had moved to Cape Girardeau MO. Its not exactly known just when or when Jemima was married the first time. My best guess is that she married in White County but no record of the marriage is found there and none found in Cape Girardeau either. Finis Bayless Porter was the name of her first husband and he was the father of her four children. The date of her marriage to George Edward Montel is not know either. They were married until death parted them in 1959, when Ed died.

Finis & Jemima were the parents of four daughters; Carrie A. Porter who married Clarence McNeely; Minnie Porter who married William Henry Houck; Lona who married Harvey Ross Sheets and Gertrude Porter who married Chris Himmelsbach.
