NOTES

From Frances Thornburg letter dated ?
The information given on James Callicott, page 779 (CC-I) is not all correct. I have done extensive research on James & family, because his son was a Texas Ranger.(William- "Bill") He did not marry and come to Texas. Hannah came from Arkansas with her husband and three children in 1824 with Stephen F. Austin Colony. Their name was Pevehouse. Her husband was building a new house for them and fell from the last placed rafter and broke his neck. Leaving her with two children. Which tells me they had already lost one child. The records show 3 when coming to Texas. James first had land given him at Gilmer Texas, Upshur County. The lady at the Land Office tried to explain, but I never fully understood. I think there were mistakes in giving two grants which they could take their choice of one. So James took the one at Austin Co. (File #492 from Archives in Nacogdocjes, TX for 644 acres in 1848 Hannah's two children were Lucinda & Jacob JR. There is a discrepancy I have not solved: These two were born in Texas. What happened to the 3 that were recorded as coming from Ark.? James and Hannah had 4 children. Listed on Page 780 in CC-I. My info. Came from Nacoghdoches, Austin Archives, Letter of Willaim before he died from Texas State University, From Register of the families introduced by the Citizen Empresario Estevan F. Austin, by Virtue of -0-- The Colonization Law of The State of Coahuila and Texas dated March 25,1825. I have a whole book on James up till he died in 1864. The two older children fought him in court for their part of their mother's land. He seemed to have a hard time trying to pay all that was happening to him. His Patent was next to Hannah's land.
