19 Oct 1781 - JOHN CALLICOTT was a Captain in the Virginia State Militia during the Revolutionary War under George Washington's command and was present at the surrender of Lord Cornwallis in Yorktown, Virginia on 19 October 1781. (Memoirs of Lower Ohio Valley).

It would seem that John Bailey was not married at the time of his father's will in 1778, probably marrying after that date and his eventual "return from the Army". In the Virginia State Archives at Richmond are unpublished Tax Lists for counties of Virginia. In them we found listed for Prince Edward County "John B. Callicote, Jno B. Callicoat, Bailey Callicot" for the years 1782 through 1796. He is the only male listed as being over 21 which leads us to think he did not have a male child "of age" until after 1796.
(some family genealogists maintain that he had children as early as 1770!)

The published 1790 Census for Virginia (taken from tax lists of 1782 and 1785) list for Prince Edward County (1785) a John Calticote claiming "5 white, 1 dwelling, 1 other building". We can read this as John, with wife, two children, and his mother Agatha, or John, wife and three children! We lean towards Mother Agatha living with them.

29 September 1796 - BAILEY CALLICOTE and wife Sarah and Agatha Callicote, sell to John Foulks (all of Prince Edward County, Va.) 100 acres for 100, land on the north side of Snail's Creek.
(Deed Book 10, page 511).

Three weeks later Bailey and Sarah Callicote sell more land on Snail's Creek. Evidently the family is preparing to move to North Carolina now, as it is this same year of 1796 that John Callicut buys the plantation from Nathan Smith in Montgomery County. (The Thomas Ward Plantation granted in 1760 by the English Crown under George II).

25 March 1798 - BAILEY CALLICOTE, of Montgomery Co., NC, enters land beg. At Red Oak Saplin near Thomas Ward and John Callicote's corner, north to Little River the down stream to Ward's line. Chainers: John Ward, William Callicote. (25 acres) Land Grant Office, Sec't of State Building, Raliegh, NC. Entry #4063, File No 047, (0 designates land not granted.

18 October 1798 - BAILEY CALLICOTE, Montgomery Co., NC, enters land Eastside of Little River beginning at his own line to John Ward's line. Chainers John Ward, William Callicote. (100 acres) Land Grant Office, Cec't of State Building, Raleigh, NC. Entry #4062, File No. 048, (land not granted

Note in 1800 Census that Sarah & John Bailey are parents of seven children under 10 years of age. This does not sound like the pattern of older parents but rather in the child bearing years of 20-40! Ten children in 20 years (1780 to 1800) with a possible set of twins.)

The 1810 census of Montgomery County, N.C., Son GEORGE CALLICOAT with wife, both 16 to 26, with 2 males under 10, are living next to John on the same land.

17 August 1817 - John B. Callicotte enters a land claim on the north east side of the PeeDee River on the bank of a small branch where Callicotte's old line intersects with Ward's line and runs east with Ward's line, etc. to Callicotte's old line. Chainers are Thomas Ward and Bailey Callicotte. The 50 acres are granted 22 December 1820. (Entry #7719, File No. 2300, Grant #2656, Book 134, page 404, Land Grant Office, Raleigh, N.C.)

25 November 1819 - JOHN B. CALLICOTT paid $2.50 in full for 50 acres of land in Montgomery Co., nC. Certificate No. 7719. Treasury Office receipt #435.

7 August 1820 - JOHN B. CALLICOTTE, Pursuant to Warrant No. 7719. Survey of 50 acres of land in the County of Montgomery on the N.E. side of the PeeDee River beg. At a persimmon on the bank of a small branch where Callicotte's line intersects with Ward's line and runs with sd Ward's line east one hundred and eight poles to a red oak then No 36 Et 100 poles to a stake rhen Wt 108 poles Callicotte's old line then with the sd line So 36 deg Wt 100 poles to beginning survey for John B. Callicotte.
Chainers: Bailey Callicott, Thomas Ward, L. Simmons, Surveyor

In 1825 there is a record of John Callicut selling the old Thomas Ward Plantation to Henry Freeman for $1.00 an acre. (from the book: "Montgomery County Heritage, N.C.", #467 Henry Freeman).
