Left to right: Catharine Weisenburger nee Porst and her half-sister, Sophia Szander nee Reichert
in College Point, New York
Catherine Weisenburger and her husband, Frank, are the parents of the Weisenburger children pictured on page 6 of the photo gallery: Sebastian, Barbara, Theresa, Anna, Catherine and young Franz (not pictured). Catherine was born in Glogowatz February 1890, the oldest daughter of Jacobus Porst and Theresia Schneider, widow of Paulus Reichert. Sponsored by her aunt Barbara Porst, Catherine arrived in New York with her husband, Frank, on August 16, 1910. Sophia, born in Glogowatz in April 1881, was the second child of Paulus Reichert and Theresia Schneider. In July 1911, the Weisenburgers sponsored Sophia Szander nee Reichert, her husband, Mihaly and three sons, George, Paul and Frank. |
This handsome couple, Sophie Sander and her husband, Al, were photographed in the early 1940's in front of the Hotel Denis, Atlantic City, New Jersey. Romance bloomed for Sophie and Al when they met in 1938 while working at the Lilly-Tulip Company in College Point, New York. Sophie and Al married and eventually moved to Florida in 1946 bringing along Sophie's mother, Sophia Reichert Sander. Their daughter, Roberta, was born in Florida. My cousin and I have been collaborating on family research since the Ellis Island site opened in 2001. She and her mom have been the "keepers" of many of the family photographs seen on this website. Without them our family history would never have been told. |
