Hi,Bambie. I am forwarding you this message as I though you might find some use in it. He is a distant cousin of mine and I am in touch with him. Shirley.. . ps please note at the top that my email address has changed. ptmbsm@cox-internet.com
Hello. I am tracing the descendants of MARGARET GOODALL and her sons :
1. WASHINGTON GOODALL, 2. JOEL GOODALL 3.JOSEPH CARREL GOODALL, and .4.JAMES MATTHEW GOODALL. The sons were born in ILLINOIS.
Washington and Joseph married sisters(ST.JOHN). There was apparently more than 1 James Matthew Goodall married to a Charlotte BURNS ??? The LDS site shows a James M. and Charlotte from TN. The 1870 AR census has James born 1821 in ILLINOIS and Charlotte born in KY. Can you set me straight ?
My great grandfather (S.P. Hayes) married Margeret Caroline Goodall, daughter of Joseph Carrel Goodall, in 1884.
Margeret Caroline was the widow of Isaac G. Goodall. Margeret and Isaac were in Boone co. AR on the 1870 census.
I cannot connect Isaac to any of the Marion county Goodalls. To complicate the connection even further, my great aunt Melissa Hayes married ROBERT I GOODALL - a grandson of Joseph Carrel.
To further impose on you - Do you know the connection between these 1850 Marion county families ?
Washington Joel GOODALL + Caroline St. John Goodall
Joseph Carrel GOODALL + Harriett St. John Goodall
William GOODALL+ and Nancy Everett Goodall
Pleasant GOODALL + Julia Everett Goodall.
There are several Goodall cousins doing research in TX, but we are all having trouble with the earlier AR,ILLINOIS ,KY, and TN connections. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks. Jim Wells Fort Worth npn@swbell.net

GOODALL NAMES WITH ILLINOIS DATES

go to ILLINOIS page 2.for this iformation, .....page 2

information from Georg305: 1860 CENSUS,
showes WILLIAM C GOODALL, wife .SALUDA ROBBINS [married 3/9/1852] ,4 children: HENRY age 8, JANET age 7, WILLIAM age 5, WILSON age 3. .... That would make Jane born 1853. William C. obit says that he was buried together with his four children that all died of diptheria (winter of 1861/62)..... So Asbury must be Asbury Jane? Goodall born in 1853 not 1833. That leaves her date too close to Henry so must be some more mistakes somewhere .

BOONE c. findings Goodall Data from Boone County Historical Museum found by George Goodall REF-R2

The following data was collected from the Boone county Historical Museum in Belvidere, Il. On March 8, 2001 by George Goodall. Sources of data were the U.S. federal census data for Boone county 1850, 1860, 1870, & 1880 and obituaries from the Belvidere Daily Republican, Belvidere Standard, & the Boone County Courier newspapers. Comparisons were made with these two sources as well as data taken from the gravestones from the Blaine, & Capron cemeteries.
Data contains some errors/minor discrepancies most of which were resolved. For example, one census contains the name Gilbert in what is clearly Robert. One obituary lists date of death as 1884 when article was published in 1883. Census data contains age in yrs only and there is some variation probably caused by whether census data taken before or after actual birth date. Another source of minor confusion is first and second names. Some discrepancies remain to be resvolved and are assumed to be caused by reference to census/gravestones by second popular name vice first or vice versa.

Obituaries were on file for the following Goodalls: Bessie Vickers Goodall, Arthur Goodall, Robert Goodall, Samuel S.Goodall, Ernest Goodall, Stella Goodall, Judy Goodall, Ellen Stall Goodall (Sams wife), Thomas Goodall, William A.Goodall, Mrs. Thomas B. (Alice)Goodall, Ann Goodall (wife of William) William C.Goodall, Catherine (Wife of Robert)Goodall, Edward Goodall, Charles Goodall, Elma (wife of Edward)Goodall, Joseph Goodall, Flora (wife of Frank)Goodall, Frank R.Goodall, & Mrs. Ernest Goodall. Some wedding data as well.

Data was also taken from a book called Portrait & Biographical Record. This very old book was shown to me ( a copy of the page) by Mrs. Portia Noble who was a volunteer worker in the musuem. She is related and was familiar with the Goodall line.
So, what do we know more about the Northern Ill. Goodalls? ..1. As I suspected, William Goodall is Thomas's father and my (and Kaycee, and Kathys) great great grandfather.
1a. Thomas B is not FR's older brother. He is much younger. Born in 1880 or late 1879 (1880 census lists him as 7/12ths) and Frank R. as age 13). There was also a sister named Anna age 11 in 1880
..2. Robert is Thomas's older brother so William is Earl's (Nancy) great great grandfather also. (and all of us are blood relatives) Robert was from England. He was two when the family emigrated. However, he did not marry a Noble. His older sister did.
..3. Samuel Noble, son of Robert Noble from Yorkshire, England married Elisabeth Goodall daughter of William & Ann in July 1842. They emigrated together with the Goodall family in the fall of 1842, however Elisabeth died enroute and was buried at sea.
..4. William Goodall age 55, his wife Ann (Moe) Goodall age 44, dau Diana A. age 21, son Willam C. age 19, dau Jane Elisabeth age 12, son Robert age 2, together with their daughter Elisabeth and her new husband Samuel Noble age 23 emigrated in the fall of 1842. The voyage took 38 days. Elisabeth died enroute and was buried at sea. .. William owned a farm (presumably in Yorkshire) and fell heir to a legacy of 900. (lbs). They came via Oneida N. Y by way of canal and lakes to Chicago. Then by three teams to the Capron/ Blaine area. They arrived in Blaine in 1843. This last stage took a week.
[By coincidence, Fran & I took a boat this summer from New York City to Oneida retracing part of the route my great great grandfather and his family traveled. Our friends continued on to Chicago in their boat.].
..5. On June 22, 1843, From the Ill public domain land records, William bought the east half of the NW. quarter of section 21 of Boone township.(80 acres) for $100. Boone township is 21 townships north of the Centralia baseline and 4 tshps east of the 3rd meridian.
..6. In 1845, William & Anne GOODALL had another son, Thomas (my ggrandfather) and Samuel Noble married their other daughter Diana A. The Nobles stayed in the area and had four sons and a daughter. However only one survived to adulthood, the others dieing in early childhood of diptheria. William C.GOODALL also lost 4 of his children in the winter of 1861/62 to diptheria.
..7. In the 1860 census, another Goodall shows up. John GOODALL and his wife Vilma living in the village of Belvidere working as a shoemaker. However, his country of origin is listed as Germany.
{mlbg:he could have been in that country pior to comming or Born there ddue to the fact his father was in the military}}
..8. I also found an Elisabeth Goodall age 66 married to Jesse Sawyer in the 1860 census age 64. That makes her 6 yrs younger than William. [Hypothesis-She is Williams sister (William named two of his daughters Elisabeth and Jane Elisabeth) and traveled with the party or came earlier and is the reason William chose to come to the area.] Their country of origin is cut off on my census record. Jesse born in 1796 is footnoted to have served in war of 1812 (He would have been 16)
..9. In summary, William had 3 sons (William C., Robert, and Thomas) and 3 daughters (Elisabeth, Diana, and Jane Elisabeth). I have connected almost all of the goodalls in the cemetery to one of these three lines. I guess its time for me to get some family tree tracking software.
..10. There are several loose ends and identification of several more contemporary goodalls. From Larry Goodalls wedding announcement in the BDR, June 16 , 1973. Larry son of Robert (earls Brother??) In the wedding party: Gary Goodall, Miss Karen Goodall, and George Goodall (Not me)
..11. I developed NO obvious connection with Southern Ill. Goodalls. A WILLIAM GOODALL bought land in Williamson county (Southern ILLinois.) in 1852. Probably connected with Sagebones William/Thomas's and several THOMAS GOODALL's show up on the marriage records but don't appear to be connected.
{mlbg}{this could also be AMOS GOODALL's Line.}\
.Thank you George for a Job well done .I think the research bug has bitten you
