Updated and Revised December 3, 2011
Welcome to OUR
Family History Webpage
THIS SITE CONTAINS FOUR PAGES
Please read this before you explore.
We have long believed that most of our Balch families, members of the three major lines below were connected, all being cousins. Our belief has been confirmed through DNA testing of members from all our family lines, thanks to the efforts of Jane Gilbert, our DNA project manager. Further, we believe that the Balch/Bassham and the Balch/Stone families were directly connected to our Maryland line, probably after the 1790 time frame. Also, of special note is the fact that DNA testing has proven that these three Balch lines are also connected to the John Balch line of Massachusetts, a member of the Georg's Company, who settled there in 1623. As noted, this line is much too large to be included here, but links are included that will take you to related web pages.
While you explore the family lines covered by our web page, please keep in mind that the story is far from complete. Also, there are sure to be errors and omissions that you may help us correct. All contributions are sincerely appreciated. Please contact me via the email address or phone number listed.

Please be patient
Hello,
My name is Gene Edward Balch and I am a twelfth generation descendant of John Balch and Catharine Clellan of the Maryland Colony.
I have collected information on our Balch and related families over the past forty years. Our family history database consists of over 17,000 individuals and more than 5,600 families, descendants from John Balch and Catharine (Clellan) McClelland, and those families related to our line. The database was created and is maintained by "Roots Magic" Version 4.0, an excellent program by Formal Soft, Inc. The "Book Report" format with sources, notes, and index, printed from the database is approximately 900 pages.
Please browse our Balch family page. If you are a Balch descendant from any of our family lines, or a member of any of the related family lines, we would really like to hear from you.
As with previous updates, this revision brings several changes and additions to our webpage. There are several new members names and corrections, thanks to all of you who have supported this effort through your email and letter contributions.
SOURCE data and NOTES on individuals are not included in the records posted to this web page. Neither is there a down-loadable GEDCOM file included. And while these posted files contain only that information readily available from public records, such as BIRTH and DEATH dates, as well as MARRIAGE data, I have honored special requests by one or two individuals that their names not be listed.
This family history file is a compilation of data obtained through research and the many contributions by family members and relations. No great effort has been expended to confirm or otherwise verify the accuracy of that information through official records. That undertaking would be monumental. Working with other family members, I have tried to sort out obvious errors, however, it is certain that many, many remain. I solicit your help in correcting these errors, and of course any new information on any of our family lines would be greatly appreciated.
I will share notes and other data I might have on individuals born prior to 1920 or known to be deceased. Please contact me via e-mail.
And finally .....
I believe I have discovered a way to modify the CSS file produced by RootsMagic to increase the font size on the individual pages, making them easier to read. If it works, these changes will certainly make it easier to navigate through the pages.Who was John Balch, our Maryland Colonist:
ABOUT OUR BALCH DNA PROJECT:
Jane Gilbert, a descendant of the Balch/Bassham line has organized and manages our Balch DNA Project. Following are links to the pages where you can read and learn about this project.
David R. Balch of Wayne, Pennsylvania has published four volumes, I through IV covering our Balch line through the 9th generation. David has also recently updated that published information with the posting of seven (7) PDF files to his web page at www.balchgenealogy.com. These files may contain data that I did not have for inclusion in my master database, and therefore are not included on this web page.
