ROBERTS OF MADISON COUNTY KENTUCKY
In March 2007 while researching in the Rowan County Library in Salisbury, North Carolina I found the following in a book [I failed to copy the title page] p. 104-105. It is my theory that this biographical information is about the same Roberts family that removed to Madison County as it states that they were in Frederick Co., MD and owned land Rowan County North Carolina in the same area of Rowan Co., that would have made them neighbors of Reason/Rezin Baker who also moved to Madison Co., Kentucky and was neighbors with the Roberts family in Madison Co. Reason married an Ellender Roberts his son Edwin married a Sarah Roberts and it has been my goal to prove that Ellender Roberts was the daughter of William and Ellinor [nee Mayhew] Roberts. On the desc. that I have found for William and Elinor they have a daughter Elinor born abt. 1744, there is never any information about this daughter and I contend that she is probably the Ellender Roberts that married Reason Baker in Rowan County North Carolina in 1782. Reason Baker appeared in several records in Frederick County Maryland. This mid-life marriage for both Reason and Ellender would indicate a second marriage for each of them but I have never found any other marriage records for either of them. Could the Sarah Roberts been a granddaughter of William, Edward, John or Richard Roberts?
"Edward Roberts and William Roberts migrated from Philadelphia County Pennsylvania to Frederick County, Maryland by 1749 [at which time William was charged with "stealing a hog with force of arms." In 1761 Edward Roberts was granted 200 acres of land in the forks of the Yadkin River on Bear Creek in western North Carolina, Where he was close neighbors to the Boones. p. 104 of unknowm book. [Ref: Carolina Cradle, by Robert W. Ramsey (1964), pp. 76-77, citing North Carolina Land Grants VI:212; Frederick County Judgments, 1748-1750, p. 386; and, Publications of the Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania, Volume I (No. 4), pp. 171, 180, 183.]"
Note: No relationship is stated between Edward and William but I believe them to be the sons of a John Roberts first of PA., then of Garrison Ride, MD.
I am looking for any information that would lead to the correct family for Ellender and Sarah Roberts. What I do know is that a Nathan Roberts lived on the next farm over from Sarah Roberts and her husband Edwin Baker in Boone County, Kentucky but I have never been able to establish the relationship between them.
