[17] 1 Dec 1842 signed Petition to the Pres. & Congress by Citizens of the
Territory requesting fulfillment of broken promise to citizens to occupy
Indian country with protection and subsistence. Listed as A.A. BAKER.

[18] From Nat'l Archive - Armed Occupation Act of 1842, Permit #105, Certificate
#202, dtd 13 Dec 1842, Arthur states he became a resident of FL in Jan 1829.
Description of his land: NW 1/4 of SW 1/4 & SW 1/4 of NW 1/4 of Sec. 2, and SE
1/4 of NE 1/4 & NE 1/4 of SE 1/4 of Sec. 3, Twn. 22 S., Range 19 E.,
containing 160 acres. Application further states Arthur resided on the
property until GFeb 1848 when he moved to Tampa in Hillsborough County. He
did not avail himself of the benefit of the Act of 1844. U.S. Land Patent, dtd
1849, for above land found in Hernando Co., FL Deeds now in possession of
Martine GLASS COX of Gainesville, FL.

[19] 4 Jul 1844 Arthur married Susan HAYMAN, dtr. of James and Delila MARTIN HAYMAN.
Susan was b. 28 Mar 1827 d. 18 Jan 1849. Susan gave birth to twins on 9 Jan
1849. The twins died on 11 Jan 1849 and Susan died shortly thereafter.(Family
Bible notes taken by Liz BAKER). Marriages and Death Notices >From The
Southern Christian Adbocate 1837-1860, "died, near Tampa, FL, on the 18th day
of Jany (sic), 1849, Mrs. Susan BAKER, consort of A.A. BAKER, aged 22
years...E.J. KNIGHT."

[20] 26 May 1845 - Voted in First Statewide Election in Florida. Listed as Aepheus
BAKER, Chuccocharts (hammock) District.

[21] 30 Jan 1851 Arthur married Emily C. WHITEHURST (b. 2 May 1834) dtr. of Daniel
Scott and Jincey FLETCHER WHITEHURST. (Family Bible notes taken by Liz BAKER).
They had the following children: Daughter b. 23 Oct 1851 (stillborn); Son b.
12 Oct 1852 (lived 6 hours); Thomas Jefferson b. 10 Nov 1853; Susan
Flourentine b. 26 Sep 1855; Martha Josephine b. 12 Jun 1858; Julia Francis b.
12 Mar 1860; Robert E. Lee b. 28 Mar 1862; James Andrew b. 31 Aug 1864; Emily
Celestia b. 13 Jul 1866; Alpheus Marian b. 20 Jan 1868 and John Wesley BAKER b.
7 Jan 1870.

[23] Emily WHITEHURST BAKER died 22 Nov 1871. She is buried in Bethlehem Cemetery,
Dover, Hillsborough Co., FL next to Arthur.

[24] 21 Aug 1872 Arthur married M.E. COLEMAN per Hillsborough Co. marriage records
(Bk. B, Page 156). Thelma BAKER said Arthur divorced M.E. as she wouldn't care
for his small children.

[25] 27 April 1876 Arthur married Elizabeth BLANTON, Hillsborough Co., FL Marriage
Records (Bk. C, Page 75). Elizabeth had two children from previous marriage:
Giles B. and Susan BLANTON. Arthur and Elizabeth had the following children:
William Oscher b. 17 Feb 1877; Fredrick Albert b. 30 May 1964; Estelle E. b.
Mar 1880; Eva Lena BAKER b. 26 Apr 1881.

[26] 15 Feb 1886 Arthur died. 7 Sep 1909 Elizabeth applied for Widow's Pension
Claim under Act of 1909 (File #A11545). She stated in 1863 Arthur enlisted in
the Confederate States Army and served in Capt. L.G. Lesley's Company, Mounted
Volunteers, C.J. M---=inger's Battalion and was honorably dischared in 1865.
S.E. SPARKMAN & Hugh GALLAGHER both declare they served with Arthur.

[27] Will - Hillsborough Co., FL, File #359, entered into probate 22 Mar 1886 lists
Thomas J. Baker, Robert L. Baker, Emily Baker, Alpheus M. Baker, Josephine
Gavin and Julia Davis as his children, wife Elizabeth, mentions 3 younger
children but not by name.

[30] The Florida Peninsular Newspaper 1855-1875, reported the death of Mrs. Alfus
BAKER from pneumonia, 25 Nov 1871, Pg. 3, Col. 1.

[31] There is a direct descendant of her father, Daniel, by the name of Gil (G.O.)
WHITEHURST living in Riverview, FL and he has the WHITEHURST family history.

[33] I have a copy of a newspaper article about an ancestor of Emily's who was the
first marshal in Tarpon Springs, FL.

[48] Notes taken by Liz Baker from the Pemberton family bible in Seffner, FL
indicate the baby was stillborn.

[49] Notes taken from the Pemberton family bible in Seffner, FL indicate the son
lived 6 hours.

[12] He was a circuit riding dentist and lived in Thonotosassa. Around 1900 he
moved his family to Dade City, FL where he opened a dental office. Edythe
DARSEY BAKER, widow of William Rudolph BAKER, showed me where the "Old Baker
Place" used to be on a visit to her home in 1996. Thomas was able to provide
a higher education for all of his children. The girls attended Florida State
College for Women (now Florida State University) and most of the males
attended the University of Florida in Gainesville. I visited his grave site in
1996.

Arthur A. 28; Paul O. 20; John C. Russell 4 10/12 gr-son.

[14] T.J. and Mary divorced. Mary listed herself as a widow on 1920 Census.
T.J. married Mrs. A.Lee Sims on 3 Jul 1920, Hernando Co., FL, Bk 2, Pg 66.
Thelma Baker from Plant City, FL identified A. Lee Sims as Thomas' friend in a
1920 photo taken at a Baker family reunion.

died 5 Mar 1937. He was a Pvt. Co. H, 2nd FLA CAV.

[56] Josephine and John had five children: Alma, Nellie, Ida, Rhoda, and Fred.

[57] Fred's wife's name may be Rose. Two daughters: Josephine and Evelyn.

[58] Her husband's last name is believed to be Davie.

[59] I visited his gravesite in 1996. Found him on the 1885 Census for
Hillsborough Co., FL. His daughter-in-law Thelma Baker, widow of William Bryan
Baker, is currently living in Plant City, FL. I visited her in 1996. The
house Thelma now lives in is on the same site where Robert lived. Robert's
house burned and William Bryan and Thelma built their house on the site in
1945. Robert had 9 children: Ada Louise; Lovie; Charlie; Robert; James Quill;
Eva M.; Osie Arthur; Bert; William Bryan. Information on the children was
supplied by Edythe Darsey Baker (daughter-in-law of William Bryan Baker) of
Plant City, FL.

[60] Edythe Baker said Andrew died of Yellow Fever eight days after his sister.

Hillsborough County marriages. Raymond was the son of Mayberry Whitehurst and
was a 1st cousin.
