Arthur is listed in John's will as his son. John left him ten shillings of
proclamation money. I have not found Arthur's will at this time.
[180]
Arthur is listed in the Colonial America Census Index, New Hanover County,
Black River District dated 1786 with one male 21 to 60 years, three males
under 21 and above 60, and one female all ages. He's also listed on the 1790
Federal Census of New Hanover County, NC with 1 free white male 16 & up
including head of household; 4 free white males under 16; and 2 free white
females including head of household. On the 1800 Census of New Hanover County
Arthur is listed with 2 males to 10 yrs.; 2 males 10-16 yrs.; 1 male 45 & up;
1 female 10-16 yrs.; 1 female 45 & up. It appears one daughter may have
married between the 1790 and 1800 Census.
[181]
In notes from Ruth BAKER CASON, she lists a deed from John JONES to Arthur
BAKER during the July Term of 1741, Wilmington, NC. She also has an entry
concerning a ferry to be establised at the mouth of Widow Moore's Creek to
cross Black River and a road to be cut from the ferry on the Black River to
Flower's Ferry on NW River, by route most convenient and least injurious from
said ferry to the main rad leading to Mallets Ferry, and that road be laid off
by John, Isaac, and James BORDEAUX, Arthur BAKER, and others.
[182]
In a Pedigree of sorts that I found on the BORDEAUX family in the New Hanover
County Public Library, Wilimington, NC (May 1997), the author indicates a
daugther (no name given) of Arthur Baker was married to James Bourdeaux
(c.1781-c1859) and that she died c.1838.
[183]
Arthur may have also have had a son George W. who is listed in land
transactions of New Hanover County, NC and also owns land adjoining James
Baker's land in Jefferson County FL. George is also listed on the 1830
Federal Census of Jefferson County between the ages of 40 and 50 years.
[382]
There is a pedigree chart in the Bordeaux family file, New Hanover County, NC
public library which references a daughter of Arthur Baker having married
James Bordeaux.

Hanover County, and New Hanover County Vital Statistics.

Fred also writes that James Bordeaux's obit is to be found in the Daily
Journal, Wilmington, NC, 19 Oct 1860.

[379] Niles National Register, Sept. 8, 1838, Miscellaneous:
[380]
Florida. Tallahassee, August 25 - More murders. On Sunday evening last an
attack was made by Indians on the family of a Mr. Baker residing in Madison
County near the Oscilla (sic), about fifteen miles east of Monticello. The
family were at supper at the time: Mrs. Baker was killed by the first rifle
discharged: Mr. Baker at the time caught up his two grand children, one under
each arm, and endeavored to make his escape, but was shot in the yard, and one
of the children killed by the same ball passing through both - the other child
was found next morning asleep between the dead bodies of father and sister, by
a party from Monticello. A young lady, daughter of Mr. B. was wounded, but
made her escape to a fort about a mile distant. A young man was also wounded.
The house was plundered and burnt.
[381]
Early on Monday morning the troops, under major Taylor, were in active pursuit
of the Indians, supposed to number 40 or 50. Capt. Rowles' company proceeded
to Econfenee (sic), about 25 miles south, to lie in ambush, while capt.
Newsom's company took the trail near the scene of the murders, under the
expectation of overtaking the enemy. There is some prospect of success by
this arrangement.
[34]
I do not have proof James is the son of Arthur BAKER, but I highly suspect
that he is. James names two of his children, Arthur and John Franklin.
Another son is Issac. I do know James married Mary BORDEAUX, daughter of
Isaac BORDEAUX, and Arthur BAKER lived near Isaac BORDEAUX.
[35]
James is listed on the 1815 Lower Black River Tax List of New Hanover County,
NC along with Isaac BORDEAUX and George BAKER.
