tract or parcel of land & plantation in New Hanover County lying & being in
the fork of Black River where the said Huffham lives given by patent dated 30
Sept 1751. Witnesses Chas Bennuman and John Sikes. I have a copy of this deed.

In Land Patent Abstracts Colony of North Carolina 1735-1764 there's an entry
for John Baker which reads: 6618, pg. 516, 23 April 1763, 300 acres in New
Hanover County on the East side of Black River opposite his home place,
joining the Bank of the River, Tar Landing, and the River swamp.
[187]
Another entry, 6976, page 27, Bryan Lea, 23 Dec 1763 reads: 116 acres in New
Hanover on the West side of Black River including the place where he now lives
joining the Bank of the River, John Baker, and the Bent of the River.
[188]
Wilmington, New Hanover Co., NC, Will Book C, Pgs. 17 & 18 - John F. Baker had
a will in which he names his wife, Mary, and his three daughters and two sons.
I've spelled the daughter's names the best I can as the writing is very
difficult to read (except for Emery Sikes and Sarah) The will is dated as
written 13 Aug 1766 and was probated 15 Dec 1767. I have a copy.
[189]
Census indexes for Colonial America list John Baker in 1762 and 1763 in what
is now New Hanover County, NC. An entry in 1767 lists Mary Baker. Mary's
listing would coincide with John's death.
[190] Mary is listed in John's will as his wife.

Arthur is listed in John's will as his son. John left him ten shillings of
proclamation money. I have not found Arthur's will at this time.
[180]
Arthur is listed in the Colonial America Census Index, New Hanover County,
Black River District dated 1786 with one male 21 to 60 years, three males
under 21 and above 60, and one female all ages. He's also listed on the 1790
Federal Census of New Hanover County, NC with 1 free white male 16 & up
including head of household; 4 free white males under 16; and 2 free white
females including head of household. On the 1800 Census of New Hanover County
Arthur is listed with 2 males to 10 yrs.; 2 males 10-16 yrs.; 1 male 45 & up;
1 female 10-16 yrs.; 1 female 45 & up. It appears one daughter may have
married between the 1790 and 1800 Census.

In notes from Ruth BAKER CASON, she lists a deed from John JONES to Arthur
BAKER during the July Term of 1741, Wilmington, NC. She also has an entry
concerning a ferry to be establised at the mouth of Widow Moore's Creek to
cross Black River and a road to be cut from the ferry on the Black River to
Flower's Ferry on NW River, by route most convenient and least injurious from
said ferry to the main rad leading to Mallets Ferry, and that road be laid off
by John, Isaac, and James BORDEAUX, Arthur BAKER, and others.
[182]
In a Pedigree of sorts that I found on the BORDEAUX family in the New Hanover
County Public Library, Wilimington, NC (May 1997), the author indicates a
daugther (no name given) of Arthur Baker was married to James Bourdeaux
(c.1781-c1859) and that she died c.1838.
[183]
Arthur may have also have had a son George W. who is listed in land
transactions of New Hanover County, NC and also owns land adjoining James
Baker's land in Jefferson County FL. George is also listed on the 1830
Federal Census of Jefferson County between the ages of 40 and 50 years.
