Notes on Joseph Studley IV:
Although the gravestone in Sherwood Cemetery, Branch Co., Michigan gives Joseph Studley's date of birth as 1770, the Barbour Collection of Vital Records of Connecticut has his birth date as December 10, 1774.  Volume 2 page 60:   "Joseph, s. Joseph & Jerusha, b. Dec. 10, 1774";  Volume 3 page 6: "Joseph, Jr., of Tolland, m. Olive Rickerson, of Willington, Feb. 20, 1792" Olive's last name had been misread as Nickerson, but close examination of the Tolland Town records show that the first letter was not N.

Federal Census Locations for Joseph Studley IV:

1790 Tolland Co. CT as a son of Joseph Studley III in the age group males 16 and over or under 16.  Born in 1774 he would have been 16 that year.  Simeon Baxter was listed on the 1790 census in Tolland Town, Tolland Co., CT right before Joseph Studley, so their farms must have been adjoining.  Joseph III's wife was Jerusha Baxter, and Simeon could have been her brother.   On February 21, 1809, in Jefferson County, New York, Joseph Studley sold about 73 acres of his land in Tolland Town, Tolland Co., Connecticut to Simeon Baxter for $730.

The 1800 census Cherry Valley, Otsego Co., New York  lists 1 male 10-16, 1 male 16-26, 3 females to 10 and 1 female 26-45.  Unless this is a mistake it indicates that Olive was older than Joseph.   Joseph would be 26 in December, so it isn't likely that he had a son 10 years old or older.  John Rickerson, Olive's father, was on the same page of this census.

The 1810 census Adams Twp., Jefferson Co., New York "Jo.s Studley Jr." lists 1 male to 10 (Datus), 1 male 26-45 (Joseph), 2 females to 10, 2 females 10-16, 1 female 26-45 (Olive)

The 1820 census  Bergen Twp., Genesee Co., New York lists 1 male under 10; 1 male 10-16; 1 male 26-45; 3 females under 10; 1 female 10-16; 1 female 26-45.

The 1830 census Green Twp., Richland (now Ashland) Co., Ohio lists 1 male 15-20 (Sanford), 1 male 50-60 (Joseph), 1 female under 5, 2 females 10-15, 1 female 50-60 (Olive)   Who is the young girl?  It isnt likely that Olive would give birth at age 50.  The girl under 5 may be a grandchild.

The 1840 census Olivesburg, Milton Township, Richland Co., Ohio lists the James Robison family.  Betsy Studley, daughter of Joseph and Olive, was the wife of James Robison.  1 male 20-30, (James), 1 male 70-80 (Joseph should be 66), 1 female 20-30 (Betsy), 1 female 60-70 (Olive).  Olive, who died in 1840, was buried in the Burdue cemetery, Huron Co., Ohio in the Robison plot near Betsy.  George Burdue was Betsy's second husband.

The 1850 census Sherwood, Branch Co., Michigan lists Joseph Studley age 76  living with his daughter Pamelia (a.k.a. Amelia) Hazen age 50 and family #110.  It states that he was born in Massachusetts.

While Joseph was living in what is now Green Township, Ashland Co., OH he is listed on the 1829 Chattels list as owning one horse and three cows.  In 1831 he had two horses and five cows.  Datus had one horse and two cows.  In the election of April, 1827 Joseph was elected township trustee.

Olive Nickerson Studley's tombstone in the Burdue Cemetery, Huron County, Ohio says, "Olive wife of Joseph Studley died Nov 6, 1840 age 65 y 5m 18d.

Most of the information on the Joseph Studley families back to the Mayflower comes initially from Dorothy Jones and her daughter Merlene Jones Black.  I further checked the information in the sources indicated here.
