Sodus Point Historic Lighthouse

Built in 1871 (by congressional order) for $14,000, lighthouse overlooks Lake Ontario and Great Sodus Bay, and replaced one built in 1825.  Initially using 12 reflectored oil lamps, it guided ships until 1901.  House was keeper's residence.  Listed in National Registry of Historic Places - 1977; property transferred to Town of Sodus - 1984; dedicated by Sodus bay Historical Society as Maritime Museum - 1985.
